Northeastern 2, Binghamton 1 (Game One)

Junior Matt Morizio hit a tie-breaking sacrifice fly in the eighth inning and sophomore pitchers Adam Ottavino and Dave Pellegrine combined to throw a one-hitter as the Northeastern baseball team defeated Binghamton, 2-1, in the first game of a doubleheader on Senior Day Sunday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.

Tied 1-1 in the eighth, junior Arman Sidhu grounded to third and Bearcats (19-20, 8-5 America East) third baseman Mathieu Bergeron made a poor throw to first in the dirt, allowing Sidhu to reach. Senior Jeff Heriot followed with a double down the right field line, with Sidhu making it to third. After an intentional walk to senior Tim Bush to load the bases, Morizio flied to deep right center, allowing Sidhu to tag up and score from third.

NU (19-18, 10-3 America East) scored the first run of the game in the third inning when senior Miguel Paquette doubled and scored on freshman Mike Lyon's bloop single to center.

Ottavino was stellar again for the Huskies. He retired the first 15 batters he faced before giving up a walk to Jeff Monaco to lead off the sixth inning. Monaco then stole second and scored on Jamie Boyer's RBI single up the middle to tie the game, 1-1.

Ottavino settled down and ended up pitching seven innings, allowing just the one hit and one run. He walked two and struck out eight. His 78 strikeouts on the season has moved him to eighth all time in Huskies history in single season strikeout totals.

Pellegrine (4-2) relieved Ottavino in the eighth and finished the game, tossing two innings and striking out four batters.

Binghamton starter Jarrod Rampey (5-4) took the loss after pitching seven and a third innings and allowing two runs, one unearned.

NU will look for the doubleheader sweep in game two with senior Devin Monds making his final start at home.
