Huskies beat Bowling Green, 11-8
March 2, 2008
IMG Academies (Bradenton, Fla.)

Junior Jeff Thomson allowed just two earned runs in his complete game, eight-hit, six-strikeout performance and the Northeastern University baseball team defeated the Bowling Green Falcons 11-8 in its first of two games at IMG Academies in Bradenton, Fla. Thomson took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, but Falcon third baseman Ryan Shay hit a lead-off double in the inning to end the bid. The final score of the game is fairly misleading, as the Huskies allowed six unearned runs in the final inning.

Shortstop and senior captain Mike Lyon once again led the Husky offense, as he got the team on the board in the first inning with a solo home run to center field and finished the game 3-5 with three RBI. Freshman Teddy Zentek made the most out of his first career start as a Husky, going 2-3 with a triple, three RBI and three runs scored and David Gustafson went 3-5 with a double, three RBI and three runs scored to pace the Husky offense.

Thomson improves to 1-0 in his first appearance of the regular season and picks up right where he left off at the end of last season when he shut out VCU in his final appearance of 2007.

Northeastern improves to 2-1 with the win and Bowling Green dropped to 1-3. This was the first of two Husky games on Sunday as they take on Western Michigan at 2 p.m. Sophomore Ryan Quigley will start the game on the mound for Northeastern.
