The Northeastern University baseball team dropped the rubber game of a three-game series against Georgia State, falling 17-7 at The Field in Panthersville, Ga. on Sunday afternoon.
The Huskies found themselves in a 5-0 hole after the second inning and were never able to climb back, despite scoring at least once in innings 4-8. Also thwarting the Huskies' comeback effort was the team's season-high five errors in the field.
Sophomore David Gustafson drove in two runs at the top of the Husky lineup, while sophomore Tony DiCesare added his second triple on the season. Junior Frank Pesanello was the only Husky with multiple hits in the game, including a double, RBI and a run scored.
Junior Dan Zehr and sophomore Ryan Quigley each threw four innings for the Huskies, but neither was able to sustain a rhythm. The shaky defensive effort by the Huskies also contributed to the pitchers' struggles in the game.
Northeastern dropped to an even 10-10 on the season and 3-6 in the CAA. Georgia State improved to 17-9 overall and 6-6 in the conference. NU is back in action on Tuesday when it hosts local Boston College at Friedman Diamond. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
