The Northeastern University baseball team dropped the first game of a doubleheader against Virginia Commonwealth 15-7 at The Diamond in Richmond, Va. Friday afternoon.
Frank Compagnone led the Huskies offensively, going 3-5 with a double, RBI and two runs scored. Tony DiCesare, Mike Tamsin, Mike Lyon and David Gustafso each added two hits in the game for the Huskies.
Jeff Thomson took his first loss against a CAA opponent of the season in the game, dropping to 4-2 on the season, and Bobby Carrington pitched the final four innings for the Huskies in relief.
The Huskies dropped to 11-15-1 on the season and 4-8-1 in the conference with the loss. The Rams improved to 8-20 overall and 2-8 in the conference.
