Huskies down UNC Wilmington 3-1

Box Score

Britney Brown had 14 kills and 15 assists while Jessica Tkachuk recorded her sixth triple-double of the season with 10 kills, 28 assists and 10 digs as Northeastern kept its playoff hopes alive, defeating UNC Wilmington 3-1 on Friday.

The Huskies jumped out to a 6-1 lead early in the first set to force a UNC Wilmington timeout. The Seahawks responded out of the break to bring the margin to one before knotting the score at 8-8 and taking a 9-8 lead on a Tkachuk attacking error. UNC Wilmington would lead by as many as eight and while the Huskies rallied to cut the deficit to four points, UNC Wilmington held on to win the first set 25-20.

Northeastern took an early 3-2 lead in the second set and never looked back from that point. The Huskies gradually pushed the lead to six at 20-14 and a kill from Tkachuk knotted the game at 1-1 as Northeastern took the set 25-17.

The third set saw the two teams battle closely early on for the 2-1 advantage. With the score tied at eight all, Northeastern would rally off three straight points for a 12-8 edge to give them the lead for good. UNC Wilmington would cut the lead down to three at 18-15, but kills from Tkachuk and Allison Knoff helped stave off the Seahawks for a 25-18 win and 2-1 match lead.

The final set was a tightly contested affair, but the Huskies prevailed 25-23 thanks to timely blocks and a kill from Brown to give Northeastern the win.

Caitlin Tittl posted nine kills, 10 digs and six blocks while Knoff tallied five blocks for a team total of 21. Northeastern has recorded 41 blocks in its last two games. Leah Neubeck led the Huskies with 15 digs and Jillian Robinson added nine kills.

Northeastern returns to action Saturday, November 7 as it takes on Georgia State at Solomon Court at 7 p.m.
