Huskies take down Fairfield, 5-4

Box Score

Northeastern has now won four games in row with its 5-4 win over Fairfield. The Huskies scored five runs in the first two innings and they would prove to be all the Huskies needed to get the win.

In the first inning the Huskies came out strong as Matt Miller and David Gustafson both singled. Frank Pesanello would then single driving home Miller as the Huskies took the lead. James Donaldson would follow Pesanello with a single driving Gustafson home.

The second inning saw the Huskies come out strong again putting up a three-spot. Brendan Stokes, Chris Guillemette and David Gustafson would all come across to score.

JT Ross pitched a strong six innings while picking up the win. Ross only allowed four hits while allowing no runs and striking out five.

Fairfield would battle back and put up three runs in the bottom of the seventh but the Huskies would not allow any more Stags batters to cross homeplate to perserve the victory.

Jeff Thomson came in for the ninth inning and preserved the lead and gave the Huskies the win while earning Thomson his first save of the season. The final play of the game was a spectacular leaping snag by shortstop Ryan Maguire with the tying run on third.

Northeastern is off until Thursday when they play Duquesne at 2:30 p.m. in Winter Haven, Fla.
