NU loses 4-0 to URI

The Huskies were dropped by Rhode Island 4-0 on Tuesday afternoon. Even though the Huskies pitching staff pitched well the Huskies bats were held in check by the Rams as the Huskies only managed four hits all ball game.

In only his second career start Brandon McNelis pitched well for the Huskies going five strong innings allowing only five hits and sitting six batters down on strikes.

Greg Ferguson made his Huskies debut pitching the sixth inning allowing only one hit. Tyler Thornton pitched a hitless seventh and Charly Bashara made his return for the eight inning.

Northeastern's best offensive chance of the ball game came early in the second inning. The Huskies had runners on the corners with one out but Brendan Stokes hit into a double play to end in the frame.

In the fifth inning the Huskies got another runner to third after Ryan Maguire reached with a bunt single but he was stranded at third as well.

Lots of respect was shown to senior Frank Pesaenllo as he was walked three time in the ball game. Pesanello had hit a home run in each of his last two games.

The Huskies pitching staff did record their 388th strikeout of the season setting a new single season record. The record of 387 was established last season. The NU pitchers have 389 strikeouts this season.

Northeastern returns to the field on Thursday in game one of three against Towson. First pitch is at 3 p.m.
