Kashaia Cannon posted a career-high 24 points to lead Northeastern to a 65-56 victory over Army at Christl Arena in West Point, N.Y. on Monday night. The win marks the second victory in a row for the Huskies, as Northeastern moves to 2-3 on the season. The Black Knights fall to 2-4 in 2010.
Cannon's 24 points led all scorers, as the guard went 5-of-9 from beyond the arc and 5-6 from the free throw line. The Providence, R.I. native also added six rebounds and two steals for the Huskies.

Laura Baranek led the Black Knights with 17 points and Jessie Coiffard was also in double-digits for Army, posting 12 points. The Huskies limited the Black Knights' leading scorer, Erin Anthony, to nine points on the night.

Mia Mayberry won the opening jump. Coiffard put the Black Knights on the board with a three-point field goal of her own before Northeastern embarked on a 6-0 run. Meagan Doucette ended the Huskies run with a three-pointer, bringing the score to 9-6 in favor of Northeastern.
The Black Knights managed a 4-0 run to make it 12-9 Northeastern going into a timeout at 10:55. Cannon hit her second shot from beyond the arc on the Huskies first possession following the break to tie the game at 12-12. Pecota then got on the board with her first three-pointer of the night, pushing Northeastern's lead to 15-12. A layup from Mendenhall and Cannon's third thee-point field goal extended the Northeastern run to 11-0 and the Huskies took a 20-12 lead into the official timeout at 7:58.
Baranek ended the Black Knights' scoring drought with a layup, but Cannon responded with a field goal on the Huskies' next possession. Cannon then nailed her fourth three-pointer of the half, giving the Huskies a 26-16 lead and forcing the Black Knights to burn a timeout with 3:58 left in the half.
The Huskies took a 4-0 run and a 30-16 lead into the last timeout on the floor at 1:35. Northeastern held on to take a 32-17 lead into the lockeroom at halftime. The 17 first-half points for the Black Knights was the lowest output for a Huskies opponent in the opening period so this season.
The teams traded field goals to open the second half. The Black Knights went on a 4-0 run before Anthony fouled Mendenhall, sending the freshman to the line. Mendenhall converted on the back end of her two opportunities, bringing the Huskies lead to 38-25.
Conroy burried a three-pointer then stole the ensuing Army pass and posted a layup to extend the Huskies lead to 43-29. Army used a 4-0 run to bring the score to 43-34 but the Huskies utilized their full court press to cause a Black Knights' turnover. Pecota then converted a layup, sending the Huskies into the media timeout at 11:49 with an 11-point lead at 45-34.
The Black Knights struck first after the stoppage with Baranek tallying a pair from the charity stripe. A Pecota thee-point field goal sparked an 8-2 Huskies run, which was capped with Cannon's career-high fifth shot from beyond the arc, giving the Huskies a 52-40 lead with under seven minutes to play.
Anthony connected on the front end of a pair of free throws and an offensive rebound led to a Black Knights' bucket, closing the gap to 52-43. Following a Tolbert field goal, Coiffard hit a shot from long range, bringing Army to within eight points, 54-46, with 5:45 left on the clock.

Tiffany Crews# buried a three to give Northeastern an eight-point cushion at 57-49. The Huskies utilized their full-court press, allowing Cannon to steal the ball and cause a Black Knights' foul. Cannon hit her second shot from the line, extending the Huskies' lead to 58-49 with just over two minutes to play.
An Anthony jumper brought Army back within seven, but a Conroy field goal pushed the Huskies lead back out to 60-51. Cannon stepped to the line following an Army foul and the guard scored on both of her chances to push Northeastern's lead to 62-51 with under 30 seconds to play.
Despite a pair of free throws and an three-pointer from Army, Northeastern maintained its lead and held on for a 65-56 victory.
Army shot a mere 17.1 percent from the field in the first half, and finished the game with a 27.7 percent average, while Northeastern went 40.0 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from the three-point line. The teams finished the game even in the rebounding category, with both squads grabbing 43 boards.
Northeastern returns to the hardwood Wednesday night when the Huskies travel to Hanover, N.H. to take on Ivy League-member Dartmouth at 7p.m.
