Logan Gillis' first collegiate home run wasn't enough for Northeastern, as the Huskies fell to Boston College, 12-6, in Newton, Mass. NU pounded out 10 hits, including three doubles, but committed four errors in the loss. Gillis finished 2-for-5 with four RBI.
Matt Miller hit three singles and two walks,
Pete Castoldi went 2-for-4 and
Frank Compagnone added a two-run double. Gillis, Miller and Castoldi each scored twice.
Starter
Chris Carmain threw three innings, allowing six runs on four hits. He took the loss, moving his record to 0-2.
Brandon McNelis also threw three innings, allowing six runs, only four of which were earned.
Dylan Maki and Michael Murphy each threw scoreless, hitless innings with one strikeout a piece.
Northeastern fell behind 2-0 after two innings, but battled back in the third to take a 3-2 lead. Castoldi smacked a first-pitch single down the left field line to lead off the frame. Miller took the first pitch he saw to left field for a single of his own to move Castoldi to second. Gillis, with two strikes, threw his bat at an outside pitch and drove the ball down the right field line. Castoldi scored and Miller moved to third.
Compagnone drove a two-out pitch down the left field line to keep the inning going, scoring Miller and Gillis and moving NU into a 3-2 lead.
BC didn't take kindly to being behind, and quickly regained the lead with a four-run inning, capped by a three-run homer from Mike Sudol.
The Huskies were quiet for the next three frames, not gaining any hits. They did, however, draw one-out walks in each inning. Meanwhile, BC tacked on six runs, including a five-run sixth that featured Sudol's second three-run home run of the game.
Gillis responded in the seventh with his three-run job. The inning started with Castoldi's third double of the season, which hopped all the way to the wall. Miller followed with a walk, setting the table for Gillis, who took a 1-0 pitch over the left field wall.
Compagnone hit a single after Gillis' home run. He finished his day 2-for-4 with the two RBI from the third inning double.
Kevin Ferguson ripped an 0-2 fastball for a single in the second inning in a 1-for-3 day.
Jon Leroux caught a runner stealing in the first inning. It was his ninth of the season out of 22 attempts. BC attempted four steals this season while Carmain was on the mound, and didn't succeed in any of them.
