Rookies Eric Jenkins and Brian Doyle joined sophomore Nick Ryan to compete under the Friday night lights at the Larry Ellis Invitational on Friday night as part of the distance carnival at Weaver Stadium.

Friday night was no different for the success Jenkins has endured this season as the Portsmouth, N.H. native posted a collegiate best in the 1,500-meter run of 3:46.76 to finish in third place ahead of 96 other runners. He was the second-fastest college harrier in the race as Matthew Gibney of Villanova captured the event to the beat of 3:44.95.

Earlier this season at the Duke Invitational, Jenkins recorded the sixth-best time in school history for the 1,500-meter run after crossing the line in 3:47.99 for the win. Jenkins bested his old standard by over a second and missed a top-five all-time mark at Northeastern by one-twelfth of a second (Jim Formica – 3:46.64 - May 25, 1997).

Classmate Brian Doyle clocked in at 4:01.54 for 85th place in the same event to top 14 other runners.

Ryan was Northeastern's delegate in the 5,000-meter run. The sophomore distance runner placed 110th with a time of 15:04.06, better than 43 others.

Northeastern will hunt for the conference crown on May 6-7 in Richmond, Va., as Virginia Commonwealth will host this year's CAA Championship. On the weekend before NU travels to VCU, head coach Sherman Hart will send a strong contingent of athletes to the Penn Relays (April 28-30), including Althea Charles, Jillena Decarteret, Andrew Staples, Kaylin Miranda, Jonathan Hall, Brian Racca and a 4 x 800-meter relay team. The remainder of the team will stay within state boundaries for a tune-up at the Stonehill Invitational on Friday, April 29.
