Pennsylvania overcame an early Northeastern lead to win the 34th rowing of the Orange Cup over the 2000 meter course of the Charles River. Penn crossed the finish line in 6:54.2 with Northeastern at 6:57.5 and Syracuse trailing at 7:07.3.

The Huskies had a four seat lead at 500, then saw Penn reduce it to two seats by the 1000 meter mark. The last 1000 was all Penn. The Quakers built a two seat lead at 1500 and won by 3.35 seconds.

The 2nd Varsity finished just 4.6 seconds behind Penn in their respective race while the 3rd Varsity and Varsity 4 squads each took home first place finishes. 3rd Varsity finished six seconds flat ahead of Penn to take that race while the Varsity 4 race was much tighter. The Huskies edged out Penn by just 1.8 seconds in a nailbiting final stretch.

Penn's victory narrows the Orange Cup record to Northeastern 15, Penn 10, and Syracuse 5. It was their first victory since 1995.

Next Saturday, Northeastern will row Louisville and Boston University in the Charles River Challenge.
