The Northeastern women's basketball team fell against Drexel on Thursday night by a score of 66-39 at the Daskalskis Athletic Center in Philadelphia, Pa.
With the loss, the Huskies fall to 3-14 on the year, and 1-5 in CAA play.
Senior captain
Jamie Conroy got the scoring started, hitting a long jumper for the contest's opening basket. A
Deanna Kerkhof three gave the Huskies a 5-2 lead following the game's first media stoppage.
After the Dragons took their first lead of the contest at 9-7, Kerkhof responded with another triple to put the Huskies back on top. Two more threes from freshman
Amencie Mercier and Conroy gave the Huskies a 16-15 lead midway through the first half.
A 10-2 run by the Dragons gave Drexel a 25-18 lead late in the first half before Conroy hit a lay-up to end the run. The Dragons then reeled off an 8-0 run to send the game to the half with the Huskies trailing 33-20.
Conroy again put the Huskies on the board first in the second half, hitting a runner in the lane. Drexel was able to build its lead to 17 before sophomore
Jewel Tunstull converted a three-point play and cut the deficit to 14 at 41-27. A Kerkhof lay-in cut it to 12, but Fiona Flanagan knocked down a three for Drexel to push the lead to 15.
Flanagan's triple sparked a 21-3 run for Drexel pushing the score to 62-32. Senior captain
Dani Iervolino hit a three in the game's waning seconds, cutting the final deficit under 30. The triple marked the nineteenth consecutive game she has hit at least one long-ball, good for the eleventh longest streak in the nation.
Kerkhof and Conroy led the Huskies in scoring with twelve apiece, and both snared five rebounds. Conroy also added an assist, giving her at least one helper in every contest this season.
Christine Huber led the Huskies in rebounds with seven, and
Jewel Tunstull added five points and five boards. The Huskies' 39 points marked their lowest offensive output of the season.
The Huskies conclude a brief two-game road trip when they travel to Hempstead, N.Y. to take on the conference-leading Hofstra Pride. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
