The Northeastern women's track & field team registered three victories and 24 scoring marks (top 8) to help the Huskies to a runner-up finish (112.83) at the first annual Joe Donahue Indoor Games. Brown won Friday's event at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center with 118.33 points.
The Boston Indoor Games were renamed the 'Joe Donahue Indoor Games' in an effort to honor the late NU track & field legend and Hall of Famer who passed away on Oct. 10, 2011.
Sophomore
Georgia Pingue posted a record-setting performance for Northeastern on Friday, not only winning the triple jump with a combination of 12.14m (39'10), but the mark is now the fifth-best measurement in NU indoor history.
Joining Pingue in the winners' circle was junior pole vaulter
Jillena Decarteret and classmate
Julia Westover. Decareteret won her second event of the season with a clearance of 3.65 (11'11.75) while Westover's second triumph of the season came with a hurl of 18.17m (59'7.5) in the weight throw.
The Huskies executed strong in the short-distance game as rookie
Victoria Alexander finished second in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.28 Veteran transfer
Nia Howard picked up sixth in the same event with a time of 7.42 while freshman
Jessica Dunnigan's time of 7.47 was good enough for eighth.
In the 200-meter dash, rookie
Monet Brathwaite turned in another runner-up performance, crossing in 25.21 while Alexander recorded a fourth-place clip of 23.35. Senior captain
Saleena Abdur-Rashed finished in fifth (25.46) while Dunnigan closed out the 200-meter dash in eighth place (25.99).
Sophomore
Ashlee Pitts ran in her second 400-meter dash this season, finishing in eighth place with a mark of 1:00.11. Senior
Christiana Gallagher was the runner-up in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:18.11 while sophomore
Chelsea Hudson was right on her heels in third place with a mark of 1:18.32. Sophomore
Camille Henry took eighth place in the 500-meter dash after crossing in 1:20.72.
In the 55-meter hurdles, Abdur-Rashed missed a personal record by one-hudredth of a second, finishing in second place with a time of 8.07. Abdur-Rashed's PR for the Huskies is 8.06.
Northeastern's 4 x 400-meter foursome of senior
Sarah Trotman, Pitts, Henry and Gallagher pieced together a third-place march of 4:01.26.
In the field, senior
Ida Cance's clearance of 1.63m (5'4.25) tied for second place in the high jump while sophomore Ally Crooke jumped over 1.53m (5'0.25) for an eighth-place tie.
Junior
Lauren Bennett and freshman
Dana Schweiger joined Decarteret in the pole vault, taking seventh (3.35m - 10'11.75) and eight place (3.05m – 10'0), in that order.
Howard's leap of 5.37m (17'7.5) in the long jump yielded fourth-place points while sophomore
Olivia Stevens finished sixth in the triple jump after a combination of 11.36m (37'3.25).
Junior
Rachel Taback picked up points in both the weight throw and shot put, closing out a fifth-place performance in the weight throw with a heave of 15.51m (50'10.75) and a pitch of 11. 33m (37'2.25) in the shot put.
The Huskies cross the Charles River and take part in the Battle of Beantown at Harvard next Friday on Feb. 3.
