Northeastern at Providence
Northeastern returns to Hockey East action with an important showdown at Providence on Friday night. The Huskies travel to Schneider Arena for the first time since Nov. 18, 2011, where NU topped the Friars, 5-2. The victory in Providence was the catalyst for an eight-game unbeaten streak spanning from Nov. 18 to Dec. 31, 2011. Northeastern has a slight edge in recent history against PC with a 5-4-1 mark over the course of the last 10 meetings but the Friars lead the overall series against Northeastern, 76-51-16. Providence is one of two teams that head coach Jim Madigan is unbeaten against in conference action (Vermont is the other). After the 5-2 win on Nov. 18, 2011, the Huskies and Friars skated to a pair of draws on Feb. 17-18, 1-1 and 2-2, respectively. Northeastern has not lost to Providence since the season opener in 2010-11 on Oct. 8, 2010.

Friar fracas
Providence locks up with Northeastern possessing the same overall record as the Huskies at 4-4-1. The Friars have a slight edge in the Hockey East standings with their 3-3-0 mark compared to NU's 2-4-1 total. Providence lost its last two games to a pair of teams tied for seventh in the league in Vermont and Massachusetts. In those two contests, the Friars lost their scoring touch and were shutout both outings, 2-0 and 4-0, respectively. Myles Harvey leads PC's scoring efforts with seven points (0-7-7) while Ross Mauermann's four goals leads PC in that category. Rookie goaltender Jon Gillies ranks in the upper echelon in regards to NCAA numbers, standing 19th overall in goals against average (2.03) and 23rd in save percentage (.924). Providence's offense ranks 37th in the country with 2.60 goals per game, but the defense has fared better and is tied for 18th in the NCAA (2.33 goals per game).

Shutout showstopper
Senior goaltender Chris Rawlings set the Northeastern school record in career shutouts with 10 after the 3-0 victory over Alabama-Huntsville on Nov. 10. Rawlings broke Brad Thiessen's (2006-09) record of nine set back on Feb. 27, 2009. Thiessen recorded his ninth shutout in his 103rd-career start. Rawlings' notched his 10th-career shutout in his 102nd-career start as a Husky. It marks Rawlings' first shutout since blanking New Hampshire on Oct. 14, 2011. As a sophomore, Rawlings tied Keni Gibson's (2003-04) single-season shutouts record in 2010-11 with a total of five.

Shooting for the record books
In the 3-0 win against Alabama-Huntsville, Northeastern totaled 54 shots to the Chargers' 19. That number marks the most total shots for a Northeastern team since Feb. 13, 1993, when Northeastern registered 54 shots against Maine. It has been almost six and a half years since Northeastern has reached the 50-shot plateau. The last time NU totaled 50 shots was at Providence on Jan. 17, 2004 (50). The only other time Northeastern hit the 50-shot mark since the 54-shot performance on 2/13/93 was against Holy Cross on Nov. 30, 2001 (51). Northeastern outshot UAH both games on Nov. 10-11, marking the first two times of the season.

Two-for-four
Northeastern has shutout two of its last four opponents, including UNH (10/27) and UAH (11/10). The last time the Huskies shut out two opponents in four games was during the 2010-11 season when NU denied three opponents of scoring in four games from Jan. 15 to Jan. 28, 2011.

Kalling all Karlssons
Sophomore assistant captain Ludwig Karlsson has scored three goals in his last two games, including a pair of power play goals. The last time the Stockholm, Sweden, native strung together goals in consecutive outings was a three-goal scoring stretch from Nov. 12 to Nov. 19, 2011. Three of Karlsson's four tallies on the year have come on the power play. With that figure, Karlsson is tied for fifth in the country in power play goals (0.33 pg). Karlsson also scored two goals against Alabama-Huntsville on Nov. 10, marking the first time a Husky accounted for a pair of goals since Feb. 3, 2012 against UMass.

Approaching 3,000
Through 104 career games played, Chris Rawlings needs just seven saves against Providence to record his 3,000th-career save. The North Delta, B.C., native is in third place all-time in career saves and needs just 174 more to eclipse Brad Thiessen's mark of 3,166 to move into second place. Bruce Racine (1984-88) is the school's leader with 3,557.

Game-Pimming goals
Junior Braden Pimm's first goal against Alabama-Huntsville on Nov. 10 counted for his fifth-career game-winning goal. The Fort St. John, B.C., native leads the Huskies in game-winning goals by a large margin. No other skater on the roster has more than two in their career while at Northeastern (Vinny Saponari has six total, but four were scored at Boston University).

Roy-tch out
Kevin Roy leads Northeastern in points scored (3-6-9), averaging 1.00 points per game thus far. The Lac-Beauport, Quebec, native is in a six-way tie for fifth place amongst rookie scoring in the NCAA. Roy is just 0.40 points per game behind Jimmy Vesey (Harvard) and Riley Barber (Miami – Ohio) to be considered the country's highest-scoring rookie.

Streakers
Vinny Saponari and Kevin Roy are on four-game point streaks with last weekend's performance. Saponari has accumulated three four-game point streaks now with the last taking place from Feb. 24 to March 3, 2012. Throughout this streak, Saponari has scored two goals and three assists. Roy's point streak is a career best and counts for one goal and five assists. Junior Cody Ferriero put together his second two-game assist streak as a Husky and his first since Dec. 10-Dec. 30, 2011 with assists in both games of the Alabama-Huntsville series.

Making it McHappen
Freshman forward Mike McMurtry burst onto the offensive scene on Nov. 3 at Merrimack, recording his first-career multi-point game thanks to scoring his first collegiate goal on the power play and assisting on Vinny Saponari's first goal of the year. The Greely, Ontario, native earned his first point in an NU sweater at New Hampshire on Oct. 27 with an assist on Ben Oskroba's first-career goal.

Sweet Swede
Sophomore Ludwig Karlsson curbed his scoreless draught on Friday, Nov. 2, and scored his first goal since the outing at Boston University last season on March 2, 2012. Karlsson also secured an assist, marking his first multi-point game since playing at Vermont on Jan. 27, 2012.
