DURHAM, N.H. – The No. 9/9 Northeastern women's ice hockey team received goals from five different skaters as the Huskies defeated New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon at the Whittemore Center, 8-1. 12 different Huskies tallied points in the game, including three apiece from Kendall Coyne (one goal, two assists) and Casey Pickett (three assists).

With her three assists, Pickett became the 21st player in program history to record 100 career points.

NU outshot the Wildcats 34-24 for the game, and netted a power play goal for the fifth straight game, going 1-of-3. The nation's top-ranked penalty killing squad also kept the UNH power play at bay at 0-of-2. Sophomore goaltender Chloe Desjardins made 23 saves in goal while her counterpart, Vilma Vaattovaara, made 26 stops.

After getting out to a slow start and surrendering a 1-0 lead seven minutes into the game, NU buried two goals in 14 seconds to take control through 20 minutes of play, 2-1. Brittney Redlick would put UNH up 6:21 into the contest when she registered her fourth goal of the season with assists going to Kailey Chappel and Alexis Crossley.

It was all NU from there as the Huskies, who outshot the Wildcats 14-10 in the opening frame, evened the score at one aside with 5:18 left in the period as Katie MacSorley netted her fifth goal of the season. With NU on the power play, Kelly Wallace sent the puck up to Tori Hickel at the point. Hickel then took a few strides towards goal and fired a slap shot that was initially stopped by Vaattovaara, but MacSorley was waiting on the doorstep to knock home the rebound.

Northeastern took its first lead of the afternoon just 14 seconds later when Rachel Llanes recorded her seventh goal of the season off a feed from Coyne.

NU continued to assert control of the game in the second period by adding three more tallies to take a commanding 5-1 lead into the second intermission. Brittany Esposito got things started for NU 2:06 into the frame when she picked up a loose puck in the corner, skated out and wristed a shot off the crossbar and into the net for her second goal of the season.

DiMasi picked up her first goal of the season midway through the frame when she jumped into the rush and was the recipient of a pass from Coyne from the right side to knock the puck past Vaattovaara for the score.

Coyne would add her team-leading 13th goal of the season with 6:30 left in the period when she took a pass from Casey Pickett, sped down the right side of the zone and flung a backhand over Vaattovaara's shoulder to extend the NU lead to four. At the other end of the ice, Desjardins held up her end of the bargain, stopping all nine shots she faced in the period, including four while NU was shorthanded.

The NU offense kept the pressure on in the third period as DiMasi notched her second of the game off a faceoff win from Claire Santostefeano with a slap shot through traffic and into the top left corner less than three minutes into the final stanza.

Casie Fields got into the action with 7:02 left in regulation when she poked home a loose rebound off a feed from Pickett before Santostefano made it 8-1 Huskies on her fourth goal of the season off a pass from Lucie Povova.

The teams will meet again on Sunday afternoon at Matthews Arena in the backend of the weekend series. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m.
