Box Score

After beating William and Mary 8-0 in game one on Friday afternoon, Northeastern fell to the Tribe in game two Saturday 4-3.

Dylan Maki struggled early, giving up four runs in the first three innings, but then settled down, allowing just one hit in his final three frames. Through six innings, the junior allowed six hits, three earned runs, struck out six and walked just one batter, but picked up the loss.

For the Tribe (10-6, 1-1 CAA), Matt Davenport went the distance for the win, allowing three runs on seven hits.

The Huskies (6-4, 1-1 CAA) picked up where they left off on Friday, taking an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Aaron Barbosa and John Puttress led off the game with back-to-back singles, getting in scoring position almost immediately off Davenport. Then Matt Miller singled through the left side, loading the bases. After Rob Fonseca struck out, McKeon brought two runs home with an RBI single to right field. The freshman now has three RBIs through his first five starts at third base.

The Tribe got the runs back in the bottom of the inning however, as Tadd Bower hit a two-run single to tie the game.

William and Mary took the lead in the bottom of the second when Stephen Arcure hit an RBI single up the middle, scoring Chris Forsten and went up 4-2 in the bottom of the third when Michael Katz hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Ryan Brown.

Northeastern cut into the lead in the fifth, scoring a run to make it 4-3. Barbosa once again got things started with a one-out single to left and Puttress followed him with a base hit of his own to move the sophomore into scoring position. Barbosa came around to score when Fonseca reached on an error by third baseman Ryan Lindemuth.

Barbosa is now leading the Huskies with a .400 average through the team's first 10 games.

Freshman Nick Berger and sophomore Mike Hanlon pitched scoreless frames in the seventh and eighth to keep Northeastern in the game, but the Huskies couldn't get a man on base in the final two innings as Davenport retired 12 straight hitters to close out the game.

The teams will conclude the series tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. In the rubber game, the Huskies will have junior Kevin Ferguson (1-0, 1.93 ERA) on the mound against Matt Wainman (2-1, 2.75 ERA) for the Tribe.
