Julia Westover and
Rachel Taback set out for Philadelphia on Thursday, Apr. 26, to take part in the 118th Penn Relays as part of the final regular season weekend for the Northeastern women's track & field team.
Westover competed in the women's hammer throw at Franklin Field and stacked up against the nation's elite by posting an 11th-place throw of 51.55m (169'1). Eastern Michigan's Lydia Gomez-Diaz won the event with a clearance of 57.94m (190'1).
The Lebanon, N.H. native placed in the top half of the field after topping 15 other student-athletes. Westover's best throw of the season (54.21m – 177'10), which occurred at the Solomon Invitational on Apr. 14, would have placed fourth at the Penn Relays.
Taback performed in the discus throw on Thursday and registered her fourth-highest mark of the season.
The Newtown, Conn. native finished 21st in a field of 30 with a toss of 41.02m (134'6). University of Miami's Amber Moore won the discus throw event with a heave of 51.45m (168'9).
Both Westover and Taback will represent Northeastern at the 2012 CAA Championship to help the Huskies capture their second conference crown since 2007. The CAA Championship will start on Friday, May 4 and conclude on Saturday, May 5. The event will be contested on the site of George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.
