The Northeastern women's track & field team concluded the regular season in Providence, R.I., on Sunday, Apr. 29, at the Brown Springtime Invitational and came away with a handful of top-three performances.
Junior
Jillena Decarteret cleared 3.65m (11'11.75) for the third time this season for second place in the pole vault. Freshman sprinter
Victoria Alexander also captured the runner-up position in her event, crossing the 200-meter dash line in 25.70.
Senior
Ida Cance cleared a season best in the high jump for third place with a measure of 1.60m (5'3). Junior
Julia Westover's mark of 53.26m (174'9) was good for third in the hammer throw and also stood as her third farthest throw this season.
Third-year member
Rachel Taback finished eighth in the hammer throw with a pitch of 44.87 (147'2) and took sixth in the discus throw after a mark of 38.64m (126'9). Taback's distance of 11.84m (38'10.25) in the shot put was good enough for ninth place. Westover also competed in the discus throw, garnering 13th with a mark of 34.16m (112'1).
In the javelin event, senior Rachel Furlong cleared 31.45m (103'2) for sixth followed by
Christina Izzicupo's 12th-place performance of 26.55m (87'1).
Closing out the field portion, sophomore
Kelly Benfey and junior
Lauren Bennett tied for fifth in the pole vault with springs of 3.35m (10'11.75). Furlong tied for eighth after hurdling over 3.20m (10'6) and sophomore
Susannah Janik tied for ninth after tying a season-best mark of 3.05m (10'0).
On the oval, Alexander also competed in the 100-meter dash, solidifying a time of 12.48 for fifth while senior
Kelly Madigan crossed in 13.00 for ninth place. In the 200-meter dash,
Kelly Madigan also finished ninth with a mark of 27.66, while sister,
Kate Madigan, posted a 17th-place clip of 28.34.
Sophomore
Camille Henry notched seventh place in the 400-meter dash with a loop of 1:00.02 and senior
Kamilah Rowe took 20th in the same event with a mark of 1:04.32. In the 800-meter run, sophomore
Eryn Wheeler logged an 18th-place time of 2:21.59 followed by
Kate Madigan's 14th-place mark of 16.51 in the 100-meter hurdles.
The Huskies switch their focus to championship season and look to capture their second conference crown since 2007 at the 2012 CAA Championship. The CAA Championship will start on Friday, May 4 and conclude on Saturday, May 5. The event will be contested on the site of George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.
