After taking the lead in the fifth, the Huskies were shut down by the James Madison bullpen for the final four frames and fell to the Dukes by a score of 3-2.

Jason Vosler had both RBIs for Northeastern and was the only Husky to collect multiple hits, going 2-4 in the loss.

Junior Kevin Ferguson bounced back after a rough outing last weekend, pitching seven innings and allowing just three runs on 11 hits with five strikeouts.

Michael Howerton got the start for the Dukes, throwing five innings and allowing two runs on five hits. Trent Cundiff pitched three scoreless innings in relief, and Chris Huffaman came on in the ninth to record the save.

The Dukes struck first in the bottom of the third inning when Evan Scott hit an RBI groundout, scoring Casey Goss.

Northeastern responded to tie the game in the top of the fourth. Jon Leroux led off the inning, getting on base after being hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch. The next batter was Jason Vosler, who wasted no time, singling through the right side to plate Leroux and put the Huskies on the board.

Vosler struck again in the fifth, bringing home Matt Miller to knock in his second run of the game with a single down the right field line and give Northeastern a 2-1 lead.

Ferguson avoided trouble until the sixth, when JMU scored two runs to take the lead. Scott led off the inning with an infield single and Bradley Shaban advanced him to third on a bunt single. After Johnny Bladel struck out looking, Cole McInturff singled through the right side, scoring Scott to tie the game. With Billy Logan batting, Shaban stole home to give the Dukes a 3-2 lead.

Sean Lyons came on in relief in the eighth. With one out Lyons walked his second batter of the inning, putting runners on first and third. Northeastern head coach Neil McPhee opted to go with sophomore Mike Hanlon and it paid off. Aaron Hoover, who had been on first base, was caught stealing by Leroux and Hanlon struck out Ian Haynes to get out of the jam without any damage.

Down just one run in the ninth NU was unable to comeback, failing to get any men on base.

The two teams will wrap up the series tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
