Northeastern pounded out 17 hits, including home runs by Connor Lyons and Rob Fonseca, to plate 13 runs in a 10-run win over Colonial Athletic Association foe Old Dominion on Friday afternoon at Friedman Diamond in Brookline. Senior left-hander Andrew Leenhouts pitched eight innings for the Huskies to earn his sixth win of the season.

The visiting Monarchs scored the game's first three runs before a six-run fourth inning ignited the Huskies' rally. Every Northeastern batter notched at least one hit on the afternoon, with Aaron Barbosa and Jon Leroux leading the way with three hits each. The 13-3 win broke a deadlock in the CAA standings and moved Northeastern (19-26, 9-16 CAA) one game ahead of Old Dominion.

ODU (18-30, 8-17) struck first, scoring an unearned run in the second inning. Josh Tutwiler led off the inning with a double down the left field line for the Monarchs. Michael Perez then struck out but reached first courtesy of a passed ball, and Tutwiler advanced to third on the play. Austin McGowan bounced into a double play that allowed Tutwiler to score from third. Leenhouts then retired Brian Bashara to end the inning.

The Monarchs added another run in the top of the third. Brandon Shelton opened the inning with a single to center field. Leenhouts retired Kenneth Belgrave before a Joshua Wright double to left center put runners at second and third. Josh Eldridge grounded out to second base to plate Shelton and give ODU a 2-0 lead. Leenhouts then sent Christopher Baker down on strikes for the third out.

Northeastern threatened in the bottom of the third. The Huskies loaded the bases with no one out, as Jason Roth singled to left, Connor Lyons singled up the middle, and Aaron Barbosa laid down a bunt single. John Puttress though bounced back to the pitcher for a 1-2-3 double play and Matt Miller grounded out to first to end the Northeastern threat.

ODU struck again in the fourth to increase its lead to 3-0. Following a Tutwiler strike out, Perez singled up the middle, advanced to second on a wild pitch, then scored on a single to left by McGowan. Huskies' catcher Leroux then caught McGowan stealing second and Leenhouts coaxed Bashara into a fly out to right to end the inning.

The Huskies seized control of the game in the fourth. The home team sent 11 batters to the plate and scored six runs to grab a 6-3 advantage. Leroux opened the rally with a single through the right side. Vosler bounced into what appeared to be a double-play, but ODU shortstop Joshua Wright dropped the throw, giving the Huskies runners at first and second with no one out. Rob Fonseca earned a four-pitch walk to load the bases. Oliver Hart took advantage and laced a double down the left-field line that plated three Northeastern runs. Following a ground out by Jason Roth, Northeastern's Lyons blasted a towering two-run home run to right field to give Northeastern a 5-3 lead. Barbosa followed the Lyons blast with a single up the middle that ended the day for ODU's Overton and brought Dean Ali to the mound. Barbosa promptly stole second base, advanced to third on a Puttress ground out, and scored on a single by Miller. Leroux followed with a single up the middle before a fly-ball out by Vosler closed the Huskies' six-run fourth inning.

Both sides went down in order in a quick fifth inning. In the top of the sixth, the Huskies negated a one-out walk with an inning-ending double play. In the bottom half of the inning, Northeastern again threatened. Lyons reached first on a walk, stole second on a Barbosa strike out, and advanced to third on a sacrifice by Puttress. Ali, though, induced a Miller ground out to end the inning.

The Monarchs put two runners on to open the top of the seventh. Leenhouts, though, pitched out of the jam, with two ground outs and a strike out. The Northeastern bats went back to work in the bottom of the frame. After Leroux was hit by a pitch, Vosler doubled through the left side and Fonseca crushed a three-run home run to left field to give the Huskies a commanding 9-3 lead. Hart singled to right, before Roth struck out and Lyons bounced into an inning-ending double play.

In the eighth, Leenhouts sandwiched two fly outs around an Eldridge single, before coaxing a ground out to end the inning. ODU brought Erick Baker on in relief of Ali in the bottom half of the inning. Barbosa immediately greeted Baker with a double down the right-field line. Barbosa advanced to third on a Puttress ground out, then scored on a Miller triple to center. Leroux followed with a double to right that scored Miller. Vosler doubled down the left-field line giving the Huskies runners at second and third. Following a Fonseca strike out, Hart reached on an error that plated Leroux and Vosler to give Northeastern a 13-3 lead. Baker then struck out Roth to get out of the inning.

Sam Berg came on in relief in the top of the ninth, ending Leenhouts' stellar eight-inning outing. The senior righty sent the Monarchs down in order, as Joey Burney struck out swinging, McGowan flied out to center and Sizemore struck out swinging.

Northeastern and Old Dominion will return to Friedman Diamond tomorrow at noon. The game is Senior Day and Alumni Day, as the Huskies will honor seniors Sam Berg, Greg Ferguson, Jimmy Filter, Andrew Leenhouts, Matt Miller and Tucker Roeder before the game. Freshman Nick Berger will get the nod for Northeastern.
