Matt Cook made the start for Northeastern and pitched five innings, allowing five earned runs on nine hits.

Connecticut added to its lead in the second with a two-run homer from Tim Martin and scored one in the third and two in the fourth to go up 7-0.

Northeastern got on the board with their first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth. Miller got things started with a one-out double to left center field and Leroux reached on an infield single back to the mound, which brought up Jason Vosler, who doubled down the right field line, scoring Miller to make it 7-1.

The fifth brought more offensive success for Northeastern, as they scored four runs on three hits. Connor Lyons hit a one-out single to get things started, but got cut down when Aaron Barbosa grounded into a fielder's choice. John Puttress was then hit by a pitch and Miller hit his second double of the day, scoring Barbosa.

Will Jolin came in to replace Butler, and Leroux greeted him with a three-run home run to bring Northeastern within two runs of UConn.

Relief pitcher Michael Murphy replaced Cook and threw a scoreless frame in the sixth, but allowed one run in the seventh on a solo home run by Joe Pavone.

Northeastern tightened up the game with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Connor Lyons led off the inning with an infield single to short and Aaron Barbosa laid down a bunt for a single, giving the Huskies two on with no out. Next, John Puttress singled up the middle, scoring Lyons from second. Miller then got his fourth hit of the day and the fourth hit of the inning, singling to left field to drive home Barbosa to cut the Connecticut lead to 8-7.

Sam Berg came on for the eighth inning and allowed a one-out triple to Fuller, but got Tom Verdi to fly out to short right field and Jon Testani to ground out to third base. Rob Fonseca made the play and Jason Roth scooped the throw out of the dirt to end the inning without any damage.

The senior hurler stayed on and threw another scoreless frame in the ninth, keeping Northeastern within a run of UConn.

In their last at bat, Northeastern got a leadoff double to left center from Connor Lyons and Barbosa laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Lyons to third before Puttress was hit by a pitch. Miller tried to get a run home with a suicide squeeze, but Lyons was thrown out for the second out of the inning. Leroux was then hit by a pitch to load the bases and bring up Vosler, but the freshman grounded out to second to end the game.
