NEWARK, Del. - The Northeastern women's basketball team (11-8, 4-4 CAA) could not overcome huge runs by the No. 25 Delaware Blue Hens (16-3, 7-0 CAA) to open both halves and suffered its worst loss of the season, falling 77-50 on Tuesday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.

Kashaia Cannon (Providence, R.I.) led the scoring for Northeastern, dropping 10 points for her sixth straight game in double figures. Senior

Jewel Tunstull added eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Sophomores
A'lece Mark (Springfield, Mass.) and
Amencie Mercier (Pierrefonds, Quebec) added seven and six points, respectively.

Deanna Kerkhof (Wallaceburg, Ontario) scored six points, a season-low, but added a career-high seven assists along with three steals. Sophomore
Tanisha Hopewell (Upper Marlboro, Md.) rounded out the scoring for NU, knocking down both shots she took to end with four points.
All-American Elena Delle Donne led all scorers for UDel with 26 points, connecting on 10-16 from the field and 4-6 from beyond the arc. Lauren Carra added 14 and tied for the team-high with six rebounds, as the Hens shot 56.6 percent from the field for the day and out-rebounded NU 40-25. Delaware has now won 26 straight CAA league games, and 23 in a row against Northeastern.
The Fightin' Blue Hens opened the game on a 17-2 run and scored 15 of the first 19 points int he second half, never trailing and dominating throughout. Northeastern shot just 32.1 percent from the floor in the game, hitting 18-56 shots, and turned the ball over 14 times in the loss.
Delle Donne scored the game's first five points, before a Tunstull lay-in got NU on the board. Overall, the Hens opened the game on a 17-2 run, connecting on six of their first eight field goals. Huber hit a pair of jumpers to try and get NU's offense on track, but UDel answered and took a 23-8 lead into the 7:57 media break.
A pair of threes from Mercier and another from Kerkhof pulled NU within 11 at 28-17, and a Cannon free throw has it within 10 at the final media break of the half at 3:36. The Hens came out of the stop with five straight, before another Kerkhof triple and one from Huber got it back to 11.
At the end of the first, Delaware held a 37-24 lead. Mercier and Kerkhof tallied six apiece to lead the Huskies, and Delle Donne led all players with 13. The Hens shot 53.6 percent from the field in the first, while holding the Huskies to just 37.5 percent. UDel also out-rebounded NU 18-11 in the opening stanza.
Tunstull hit the first bucket of the second half, before Delle Donne answered on the ensuing possession. After a Mark jumper, the Blue Hens rattled off nine straight, jumping ahead 20 for the first time at 16:28 and forcing a Northeastern timeout.
UDel stretched its run to 15 in a row after the timeout, taking a 54-28 lead with 15:30 remaining. The 26-point lead was Delaware's largest of the day. Midway through the second half, two Cannon threes and a Hopewell put-back got NU within 20, before a 10-2 Hens run stretched their lead to the largest of the day at 28, going up 66-38 with six minutes to play.
A three in the game's final minute for Delaware put them up 29, before a Hopewell lay-in got the final to 77-50. The 50-point output was the second lowest of the season for NU, and the 27-point loss was the worst of the year for the Huskies.
Next up, the Huskies head back to Boston for a matinee with the Towson Tigers on Sunday, Feb. 3. Tip-off at Solomon Court on Super Sunday is set for 2 p.m.
