BOSTON – Tickets for the 2013 Women's Beanpot, hosted by Northeastern University at Matthews Arena, are now available for purchase. The tournament, entering its 35th season, features Boston College, Boston University, Harvard and Northeastern in a battle for Boston bragging rights.
The tournament begins with semifinal action on February 5 at 5 p.m. when the Eagles and Crimson facing off before the Terriers and Huskies square off in the nightcap at 8 p.m. The losers of the semifinal contests will meet in the Consolation Game one week later, Feb. 12, at 5 p.m. before the semifinal winners meet in the title game at 8 p.m.
Tickets for the tournament are $5 for adults and $3 for children, and are good for admission to both games on the date printed on the ticket. Students, faculty and staff from the participating schools will be admitted free of charge with a valid school ID. Tickets for groups of 15 people or more will cost $2 each, and must be purchased at least 72 hours in advance. All internet-based ticket orders will offer the option to print E-tickets at home for no additional cost or the option to have the tickets mailed in advance or held at will call for a nominal fee. Tickets placed within one week of any game will only have the Will Call and E-ticket options.
Matthews Arena offers free parking in the Camden Lot, which can be accessed Columbus Ave. The lot is open on a first come, first served basis to the general public and there is no fee to park here. The Camden Lot opens one hour and 30 minutes before every home event at Matthews Arena.
All four schools in the tournament are currently ranked in the top-10 of both national polls, led by Harvard's No. 2 ranking. Boston College currently sits at 3rd, Boston University at 5th and Northeastern at No. 9.
The Crimson, 11-1-1 on the season and 9-0-0 in ECAC play, are led by senior Jillian Dempsey, who is second in the nation in goals per game (1.23) and and third in points per game (2.38). She also leads the conference in points (23) and goals (10), while ranking second in assists (13) during league play. Harvard has won 13 Beanpot titles, most recently in 2010.
Boston College enters Wednesday's game against NU winners of its last nine games, and unbeaten in its last 14 (12-0-2). Sophomore forward Alex Carpenter is riding a 16-game point streak, and is tied for the team-lead with 30 points (13 goals, 17 assists). The Eagles are in first place in the Hockey East standings with an 8-2-1 mark in league play.
The Terriers, who advanced to the Beanpot final for the first time since 2008 last season, are 12-3-3 this season, including a 7-2-1 record in Hockey East. Marie-Philip Poulin leads the squad with 29 points (nine goals, 20 assists) on the season, while Kerrin Sperry recently broke the program record for career victories.
Northeastern has won a tournament record 15 Beanpot titles, and is 11-6-2 this season. The Huskies are led by sophomore forward
Kendall Coyne, who is seventh in the nation in both points per game (1.82) and goals per game (0.94). NU captured the 2012 Beanpot championship with a 4-3 overtime victory against Boston University last year at Walter Brown Arena.
