Women’s rowing splits squad for Small Boat, Green Monster

Results (row2k)  |  Collegiate Small Boat Challenge Schedule

BOSTON
—The Northeastern women's rowing team will participate in two regattas this weekend, sending a partial squad to the Green Monster Regatta in Hanover, N.H., while other NU crews will travel to the Collegiate Small Boat Challenge in West Windsor, N.J.

The Green Monster Regatta, which will take place on Saturday on New Hampshire's Connecticut River, is a freshman/novice regatta. The event provides a racing opportunity for recruited and walk-on freshmen to compete against fellow classmates from schools across New England.

In its inaugural year, the Collegiate Small Boat Challenge is the only collegiate regatta that focuses solely on rowing in singles, doubles and pairs. The event will take place on Saturday and Sunday at the Caspersen Rowing Center on Lake Mercer in West Windsor, N.J. Northeastern is one of the organizing schools, joining Harvard, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Syracuse, and Virginia.

The objective of the regatta is to provide quality racing opportunities in pairs and sculling events for collegiate athletes, who often train in small boats to hone their skills, but traditionally only compete in eights and fours. There are 42 doubles, 34 pairs, and 30 singles entered from 15 universities.

The regatta format will feature a 2000-meter time trial on Saturday morning, which will seed multiple six-boat, 2000-meter finals on Sunday morning.
