BROOKLINE, Mass. – A seven-run seventh, coupled with seven shutout innings from Isaac Lippert on the mound, allowed Northeastern to put together a complete, 10-1 win over crosstown foe Boston College in the Huskies' home opener on Wednesday. NU (9-6, 1-2 CAA) belted out 12 hits on the afternoon -- six of which came consecutively in the seventh frame -- to BC's (3-12, 0-3 ACC) four.

Lippert, making his second start of 2013, earned the win after going 7.0 innings, giving up just three hits and fanning two. The sophomore lefty faced the minimum number of batters through six innings and faced just 23 Eagles before leaving with a 10-0 lead. Pitchers Matt Cook and Dylan Maki combined to finish the final two innings to preserve the dominating win. At the plate, NU's Nos. 2 and 3 hitters, Michael Foster (2-for-5, 3RBI, 1R) and Jason Vosler (2-for-4, 3RBI, 1R), accounted for eight total runs, driving home three Huskies while scoring one run apiece.

Things started off quickly for both clubs, but the game entered the third inning with a scoreless tie. For the eighth time this season, Northeastern grabbed the game's first run, this time thanks to a Vosler RBI single. After a passed ball allowed Aaron Barbosa (2-for-3, 1R, 1RBI) and catcher Josh Treff (1-for-3, 1R) to advance to second and third, the Huskies struck. On a fielder's choice, Treff was thrown out at the plate, but Vosler sent a shot up the middle to bring Barbosa home during the next at bat, giving NU a 1-0 lead into the fourth.

Northeastern displayed solid fielding all day, but the defense really shined in the top of the fourth. After an infield single and a stolen base on a great jump, Blake Butera drove a grounder to Vosler at short who caught a running Gabriel Hernandez in an interesting pickle. Vosler threw to Pete Castoldi at third, who threw back to Lippert on second, who then threw to left fielder Brad Burcroff who also came in to assist and make the final tag, resulting in the rare 6-5-1-7 out. To make things worse for the Eagles, Lippert got Tom Bourdon to strikeout swinging on the next at bat and with great awareness, Treff threw a frozen rope to Castoldi to catch Butera stealing third for a strike-out, throw-out double play, preserving the 1-0 lead for NU. Treff finished the day behind the plate gunning down two Eagles trying to steal bases.

The Huskies scored again two innings later when Vosler drove a deep sacrifice fly to center. Barbosa was pushed to third and Castoldi (who had been hit by a pitch) crossed the plate for a 2-0 advantage. In the next inning, it was the bottom of the order that got in on the action. Connor Lyons (1-for-5, 1RBI, 2R) reached on a fielder's choice and immediately stole second (his fourth steal of the year). DH John Puttress (1-for-4, 1RBI) singled right up the middle, but it was deep enough to send Lyons racing home for a 3-0 lead.

After Lippert had seen just 23 batters through seven innings, the Huskies broke open the flood gates offensively, batting around the order in the bottom of the frame. Leadoff man Aaron Barbosa singled through the right side to kickstart six straight hits from the Red and Black, including a booming triple to dead center from Vosler and doubles from Foster and Burcroff (1-for-4, 1RBI, 1R). After a Rob Fonseca (2-for-5, 1R) single and a Connor Lyons RBI base knock to center made it 7-0 in Northeastern's favor, Treff drew a walk which loaded the bases with just one out. Castoldi subsequently left swinging, but Barbosa -- in his second appearance of the inning -- was hit by a pitch, which brought home Fonseca. Foster then added two of his three RBI with a two-out single to center field, giving the Huskies a nearly insurmountable 10-0 lead before the eighth inning began.

Matt Cook walked one, but pitched to just three Eagles in the top of the eighth thanks to a runner's interference that resulted in an inning-ending double play. Dylan Maki came on for the ninth inning, allowing BC's first run -- a sacrfice fly from Tom Bourdan following a double from Blake Butera. But the senior co-captain tossed two strikeouts in the inning, the last of which ended the game with the Huskies up a final 10-1.

Northeastern returns to the diamond this weekend, but will be on the road once again as the Huskies visit conference foe George Mason in Fairfax for a weekend series.
