BOSTON – Sophomore forward Kendall Coyne's impact on the Northeastern women's ice hockey team's success this season has not gone unnoticed. The Palos Heights, Ill. native was named the Army ROTC Three Stars Award winner by Hockey East on Wednesday.

The Army ROTC Three Stars of the Game, which is announced at the conclusion of each Hockey East game, featured Coyne in 14 of her 19 conference contests this season. She was named the first star on seven occasions, the second star four times, and the third star three times.

Coyne beat out Boston College's Alex Carpenter by three points, totaling 29 points to Carpenter's 26. Also in the top-five were Melissa Bizarri (Boston College; 17 points), Isabel Menard (Boston University; 16 points) and Roxanne Douville (Vermont; 15 points) and Haley Skarupa (Boston College; 15 points).

Coyne leads the Huskies with 65 points (35 goals, 30 assists) this season, and was named a top-ten finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award, which is given annually to the top player in Division I women's ice hockey. The seven-time Athletic Republic Player of the Week selection is fifth in the nation in points per game (2.03), third in goals per game (1.09), tied for fifth in power play goals (nine), and tied for fourth in game-winning goals (seven).

The winger is also the first Husky since Vicky Sunahora (1988-89) to record 60 points in a season, and the first since Brooke Whitney (2000-01, 2001-02) with at least 40 points and 25 goals in consecutive seasons.

Coyne is currently riding a career-long 14-game point streak (19 goals, 15 assists), including 11 multi-point games and two hat tricks. Earlier this season, she became the 22nd player in program history to record 100 career points, and only the third player to accomplish the feat in less than two seasons with the team. She is 19th on the NU record list for career points (110) and ranked 13th in career goals (61), while her 65 points and 35 goals this year are both second on their respective single-season record lists.

Coyne and the Huskies return to the ice on Saturday when Northeastern squares off with No. 3/2 Boston College at 3:30 p.m. in the Hockey East semifinals in Hyannis, Mass. Both semifinals games will be broadcast live on the internet by Pack Network at www.hockeyeastonline.tv. Games will be sold on an individual basis for $8.95. Tickets for the 11th annual WHEA Championship are $8 for general admission, and $5 for groups of 10 or more and can be ordered via mail order at www.hockeyeastonline.com.
