BOSTON – Northeastern continues its six-game non-conference stretch Wednesday in southwestern Connecticut as the Huskies travel to Fairfield to take on the Fairfield Stags at 3:30 p.m.
NU is 11-4 in its last 15 games, but the Huskies are coming off a grueling 1-2 weekend at Richmond, where they were just two runs shy of potentially sweeping the series with the Spiders.
Aaron Barbosa shined Friday through Sunday, batting .417 (5-for-12) with three runs scored and six RBI. Richmond gave Northeastern's pitching staff all it could handle, accumulating 21 runs over the three games, but the Husky hurlers are still tops in the CAA by far.
Fairfield enters the Wednesday showdown 10-20 on the season with a 4-5 record at home and 3-9 record in MAAC play. The Stags have the ability to get on base, thanks to their top three hitters averaging better than .310 in Ryan Plourde (36-for-109), Jack Giannini (37-for-116) and Rob LoPinto (38-for-121). Plourde leads the team with 21 RBI this season, slugs .459 with a team-best two home runs.
Northeastern and Fairfield have met 13 times before, the last time coming in 2009 -- a 5-4 win for the Huskies. NU is 4-0 all-time at Fairfield, having played there last in 1985.
