FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Northeastern used eight runs in the sixth inning to power its way past Fairfield, 10-6, Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Baseball Diamond. The Huskies (22-15, 7-8 CAA) pounded out 10 runs on 11 hits against the Stags (10-22, 3-9 MAAC), including a 3-for-5, three RBI effort from Rob Fonseca.

Freshman James Mulry (2-0, 1.93 ERA) earned the weekday start -- his third of the year -- but it was Isaac Lippert (4-1, 2.23 ERA) who was credited for the win. Lippert went 1.1 innings, giving up four runs on two hits, with three walks to earn the victory. Mulry cashed out after going 4.0 innings of three-hit work, giving up two runs and striking out four.

The Stags made a run at Mulry in the early going, tallying a run in the bottom of the opening frame. The freshman Husky pitcher got the first batter he saw swinging, but back-to-back singles gave Fairfield an early 1-0 lead after one.

Northeastern didn't dent the scoreboard until the third inning, when Jason Vosler (1-for-4, 2RBI) drove in his team-best 29th run on his team-high sixth sacrifice fly, pushing Pete Castoldi (1-for-4, 2R, 1RBI) across the plate to even things up. Fairfield, however, added another score in the bottom of the frame, as Mulry yielded a leadoff single, a walk and then back-to-back sacrifice hits.

With a slim 2-1 advantage into the bottom of the fifth, the Stags opened up their lead with two more runs. Lippert came on in relief of Mulry to start the inning, but two straight one-out errors led to both scores for the home team, as a single and a groundout brought both Sal Ciccone and Alex Witkus home to make it 4-1.

The Huskies, however, ramped up with their eight-run sixth inning. After Connor Lyons (1-for-3, 1R, 1RBI) recorded the first out for the Huskies, Fonseca grabbed his third base knock, sending one into left field. Michael Foster (1-for-5, 1R; 2.0IP, 0H, 0R, 2K, 1BB) who saw double duty on the mound as well, subsequently doubled, putting runners on the corners with just the one man away.

Justin Kessler (0-for-1, 1R) took his third walk of the afternoon in the next at bat, and then John Puttress (2-for-2, 1R, 1RBI) pinch hit for Josh Treff (0-for-2) and drew an RBI walk. After a pitching change, bringing Tim Duggan to the mound, Castoldi reached on a fielder's choice and Foster scored on an error. Barbosa singled in the next at bat, scoring another, bringing the Huskies within one score, 4-3. Brad Burcroff (1-for-5, 2R) drew yet another walk which scored a runner, followed by a Vosler RBI groundout. Fonseca earned all three of his RBI in his next at bat, smashing a bases-clearing double to left, making it 9-4 quickly in favor of the visiting Huskies.

Fairfield wanted to make things interesting, though, and grabbed two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, thanks to the Huskies' third error of the afternoon and an RBI walk drawn by Witkus. After Brad McLean (1-0, 3.15 ERA) came into relieve Lippert, the freshman gave up a sac fly, making things a bit closer, 9-6.

The two traded scoreless halves of the seventh, but the Huskies tacked on one more in the eighth -- their eighth time this season scoring 10 runs or more. Burcroff rocketed a leadoff double into left and was welcomed home two batters later after a Lyons single to right. After Foster came to the mound, the Huskies steamrolled the rest of the way to finish off the Stags by the same, 10-6 margin.

Northeastern will take the next eight days off for its bye week and will return back to Friedman Diamond on April 26 when the Huskies host CAA foe Georgia State for a crucial three-game series.
