BOSTON – The Northeastern Huskies continued their early season success at the sixth annual Jay Carisella Invitational by taking home first overall in both the men's and women's meets on Saturday, Dec. 13.

The men finished first out of eight competing teams with a score of 154, while the women claimed the top spot out of seven teams after scoring 153.5.
Â
For the women, junior
Camille Gooden had a strong outing in the 400-meter run, placing first overall with a time of 56.83. Gooden has now won the event in both of her first two meets of the season. The women continued their winning ways in the next event as
Corinne Myers and
Audrey Weyand took home first and second place in the 500-meter run with times of 1:16.08 and 1:17.39, respectively.

In the 60-meter hurdles, newly named captain
Nicole Genard kicked off her season with a second-place finish, her time of 9.04 was the fastest among juniors. Just behind Genard was
Betsy Garnick who took home fourth in the hurdles, finishing in 9.09 seconds.

Later in the afternoon,
Jordan O'Dea would take the top spot in the 5000-meter run crossing the finish line in 17:14.64.
Kerri Ruffo and
Daphne Apostolidis finished in fifth and seventh place, respectively, in the event.

To round out the track events, the women finished the 4x800 in 9:48.48 to take first place. The team was comprised of
Sarah Adler,
Jessica Dunnigan,
Kelsey Sullivan and
Audrey Weyand.
Â
In the field events, the Huskies would continue to shine as they took home a top-three finish in the pole vault, the long jump, the shot put and the weight throw.
Jacilyn Briggs' mark of 3.75 meters won the pole vault, while Genard recorded a long jump of 5.64 meters, good for first place.

Jenna Serunian posted a mark of 12.78 meters in the shot put to take home third place and junior
Alexandra Rose won the weight throw for the second consecutive week with a toss of 15.54 meters.

On the men's side the story was similar as the Huskies took home first in several key events over the course of the afternoon.

Donovan Henry had a strong opening to his meet, finishing fourth in the 400-meter run with a time of 49.90, while
Anthony Pavlich took home sixth in the 500-meter run crossing the finish line in 1:06.56. In the 800-meter run,
Paul Duffey finished first overall, recording a time of 1:52.83.

In the 5000-meter run,
Stephen Sollowin,
Christian Stafford and
Zachary Fraielli finished second through fourth, completing the event in 14:31.64, 14:41.16, and 14:59.63.

For the second straight meet
Jordan Samuels claimed the top spot in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 8.23. The freshman is off to a tremendous start this season for the Huskies.Â

A team comprised of
David McDonald,
Connor Quinn, Jay Navin and
Ben Trapani took home first place in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 7:52.50, while a group of Henry, Pavlich,
Eric Benny and
Joshua Norris finished in second place in the 4x400.

In the field events the Huskies also collected several top-three placements.
Adam Thomas finished second overall in the pole vault with a toss of 4.50 meters, while
Kyle Darrow took home first place in the long jump, posting a mark of 7.09 meters. Samuels finished third in the same event with a long jump of 6.58 meters.

Kevin Rosenberg was the first-place finisher in the shot put with a mark of 15.85 meters. His teammate
James Hall claimed third in the weight throw, recording a toss of 16.98 meters.

The Huskies will now break for a month before returning to action on Saturday, Jan. 13 at the Beantown Challenge, which is hosted by Harvard. The following weekend, on Friday, Jan. 23, the Huskies return to the Reggie Lewis Center to host the Joe Donahue Games.Â
