BOSTON – The Northeastern track and field program returns home this weekend when the Huskies host the Jay Carisella Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Reggie Lewis Center.
Â
The track meet is named in honor and memory of the late Jay Carisella. Jay was a member of the Northeastern track team in 2007, though he tragically died in an automobile accident on Dec. 23, 2007. Jay participated as a middle distance runner. He demonstrated outstanding character, led by example and always created a positive experience for all the people he came in contact with. He understood the value of athletics and education. Beyond the acclaim he received for his distance running, Jay's most valuable asset on the team was his character. Jay had a big heart as he dedicated much of his time to volunteer in the community.Â
The men will send 36 competitors to the event, while the women will enter 25 athletes into the competition. The invitational kicks off at 4:00 p.m. with the women's high jump. Of the competitors, six set new personal bests at last weekend's Boston University season opener.

Last time out
The Huskies had a strong showing at Boston University's season opener on Saturday, Dec. 6, as the team wrapped up first-place finishes in seven different events, top-four finishes in 26 total events and six Huskies recorded new personal bests.
Â
Jordan Samuels, a freshman in the program, tackled the 60-meter hurdles in a remarkable 8.19 seconds, a personal best, and a mark that ranks him fourth all-time in program history. Â Samuels won the event for Northeastern.Â
Â
Taking home second place in just her first collegiate event,
Corinne Myers finished the 1000-meter run with a time of 2:55.67, a new personal best. Another freshman,
Ben Trapani, finished his one-mile run in 4:22.25, also marking a personal record.
Â
Junior
Alexandra Rose kicked off her season in style, recording her first career win in the weight throw. The Mount Sinai, New York, native posted a mark of 15.77 meters, a personal best.
Â
Rounding out the career-best performances was newcomer
Sarah Adler, who completed the 800-meter run with a time of 2:55.67, good for first place in the event.
Â
The road ahead
The Huskies now break for one month before lacing their shoes back up for the Beantown Challenge, hosted by Harvard. That event is set to begin on Saturday, Jan. 17 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Northeastern will then compete in two more events – the Joe Donahue Games, and the John Thomas Terrier Invite – to round out the month of January. Those events take place Jan. 23 and Jan. 30.Â
