Box Score

BOSTON – Chris Carmain was stellar on the mound for the Northeastern baseball team as he kept No. 23 Texas A&M off the scoreboard for seven innings, but Logan Nottebrok hit a walk-off solo home run in the ninth inning to give the Aggies a 1-0 win Sunday afternoon.

Carmain, who was limited to 22.1 innings last year as he recovered from Tommy John surgery, allowed only two hits and two walks in his first start of the season.

The Huskies (0-3) threatened to score first when Jason Vosler (2-for-3, BB) led off the fourth inning with a single and Connor Lyons (0-for-3, BB) drew a walk, but A&M starter Grayson Long got out of the inning unscathed.

The Aggies (3-0) threatened to get on the board in the seventh inning when Nottebrok led off with a walk and advanced to second on a groundout. A deep fly out to left-center field off the bat of Cole Lankford allowed Nottebrok to tag up and move to third base. Troy Stein was hit by a pitch to put runners on the corners for A&M. Ryne Birk stepped to the plate next and worked a 3-0 count, but Carmain battled back and got Birk to strikeout swinging, keeping the game in a scoreless tie.

Brad Burcroff (0-for-4), who started the game in left field, came in to relieve Carmain in the eighth inning. Burcroff allowed a leadoff single to J.B. Moss, who then reached second on a groundout. Once again, a Northeastern pitcher showed great poise with runners on scoring position as Burcroff got Patrick McLendon to pop out and then struck out Birk to end the Aggie threat.

Vosler led off the top of the ninth inning with a single up the middle, and Pat Madigan (0-for-3) laid down a bunt that A&M pitcher Jason Jester threw into centerfield trying to get Vosler out at second. Lyons followed with a bunt attempt, but this time the Aggies were able to get the lead runner out at third base. Burcroff came to the plate with runners on first and second, but he flew out and Josh Treff (0-for-3) struck out to end NU's half of the ninth.

Nottebrok led off the bottom of the ninth by taking a 1-0 offering from Burcroff deep to left field, giving A&M its third win in three tries against the Huskies this weekend.

"We competed very hard today," said Northeastern assistant coach Mike Glavine. "Carmain was awesome, but we came up just a little short. The results were disappointing this weekend, but today we showed that we have the ability to play with anyone in the country if we play our game. This weekend will have tremendous value for us as we move forward."

Sean Lyons (1-for-4) hit a single in the fifth inning and has now hit safely in each of the first three games of the season. Vosler's two-hit performance makes him the fourth Northeastern player to have a multi-hit game in the weekend series at A&M. Connor Lyons and Sean Lyons finished with two and three hits, respectively, on Saturday. Michael Foster collected two hits in the season-opener Friday.

The Huskies return to the Lone Star State when they travel to Houston Baptist for a two-day, three-game series that starts Friday, Feb. 21, at 3 p.m.
