Box Score  | Coach McPhee Interview

BOSTON – Josh Treff smacked a single through the left side with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Northeastern baseball team a 3-2 walk-off victory over Towson on Sunday afternoon.

The Huskies (15-18, 4-5 CAA) overcame a 2-0 deficit to force their sixth extra-inning game of the season.

Michael Foster (2-for-5, R, 2B) ripped a one-out double down the leftfield line to get into scoring position in the 10th. Sean Lyons (2-for-3, 2R) followed with a walk, but Gabe Levanti (0-for-3) lined out to short for the inning's second out. Cam Hanley (1-for-3, RBI) drew a free pass to load the bases, and Treff (2-for-5, 2 RBI) sent a 2-1 offering into left field for the win.

The Tigers (16-15, 1-5 CAA) nearly claimed a 10th-inning lead when they put runners on the corners with nobody out, but Foster pitched his way out of trouble to keep the game knotted, 2-2. A two-base throwing error to first by Foster, who was pitching in relief, allowed Hunter Bennett to reach second base with nobody out. Zach Fisher laid down a sac bunt that was fielded off the mound by Foster, but the closer's throw to third base wasn't in time as Bennett slid in safely.

Foster maintained his poise and got Brandon Gonnella to pop out in the infield and then struck out Pat Fitzgerald for the second out. Kurt Wertz was hit by a pitch to load the bases, but Foster struck out Dominic Fratantuono to end Towson's half of the 10th.

The Tigers claimed a 1-0 lead in the second inning after Fratantuono led off with a walk and moved into scoring position on Peter Bowles' single. Brady Policielli grounded out to short, but the ball was hit deep enough for Fratantuono to score. Towson increased its lead to 2-0 in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Brendan Butler, but the Huskies got on the board in the bottom of the frame.

Foster and Lyons began Northeastern's fourth inning with consecutive singles, but Foster was forced out at third base after Levanti laid down a bunt. Cam Hanley (1-for-3, RBI) reached on a fielder's choice that put runners on the corners with two outs, and Treff followed with a single that scored Lyons to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Northeastern evened the scored in the sixth inning after Lyons led off with a single and moved into scoring position on a sac bunt by Levanti. Hanley followed with a single to right field and the speedy Lyons beat the throw home to tie the game, 2-2.

Huskies' starting pitcher Dustin Hunt allowed just two earned runs through seven innings on three hits and three walks while striking out three. Foster improved to 2-0 on the season after allowing only one hit in three innings of relief. Northeastern improved its conference-leading ERA to 2.94 after the win.
