Coach Glavine InterviewBOSTON –
Jason Vosler's two-run single in the seventh inning capped off the Northeastern baseball team's come-from-behind 4-3 win over visiting Hartford on Tuesday afternoon.
The Huskies (19-22) entered the seventh inning trailing 3-2, but
Josh Treff (2-for-3, R, RBI) began the two-run rally by drawing a one-out walk and
Connor Lyons (1-for-3, R, RBI) followed with a single.
Michael Foster (1-for-4) chopped an infield single to the shortstop to load the bases for NU, and Vosler (2-for-4, 2 RBI) pulled a single to right field to score Treff and Lyons for what stood to be the game-winning hit.
Mike Fitzgerald (3-2) earned the win after throwing one inning out of the bullpen, and
Brad Burcroff followed with a one-two-three eighth inning in relief. Foster shut the door on the Hawks (24-17) to post his fifth save of the year.
Hartford's Ryan Lukach put the Hawks on the board first with a solo home run to left field in the second inning, and starting pitcher Brian Murphy held the Huskies hitless through four innings, but NU broke through in the fifth.
Gabe Levanti (1-for-4, R) hit a hard grounder that bounced off the first baseman's glove and allowed the Northeastern leftfielder to reach base on the error.
Cam Hanley (1-for-4, R) came through with the Huskies' first hit of the game with a single to right field that moved Levanti to second base, and Treff followed with a single that careened off the diving first-baseman's glove for an infield single and allowed Levanti to score the game-tying run. Hanley moved to third base on the play and scored the go-ahead run on Lyons' single to right field.
The Hawks reclaimed the lead in the sixth inning after both Chris DelDebbio and David MacKinnon drew walks, and James Alfonso's double to left field scored both runners to put Hartford back in front, 3-2.
However, Northeastern battled back to post its third-straight win and fourth in the last five games.
The Huskies continue their midweek non-conference schedule when they travel to Bryant on Wednesday, April 30, for Northeastern's second matchup of the season against the Bulldogs. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
