Final Results

INDIANAPOLIS – The Northeastern women's rowing team finished off a strong weekend at the NCAA Championship regatta with an 18th-place team finish on Sunday at Eagle Creek Park.

The Huskies finished above Conference USA champion Oklahoma, Patriot League champion Boston University, Atlantic-10 champion Massachusetts and MAAC champion Jacksonville to complete the season as a top-20 team in the nation.

The varsity four won the D Final in the first event of the day to place 19th, and both the varsity eight (18th) and second varsity eight (19th) placed sixth in their respective C Finals. In finishing 18th, the varsity eight outperformed its seed (19) entering the competition.

Northeastern garnered 27 team points (15 from the varsity eight, eight from the second varsity, and four from the varsity four) to earn its 18th-place standing.

"I think we performed about as well as we could this weekend as the number 18 team in the country," head coach Joe Wilhelm said. "This was an eye-opening experience for us to come out here and see the level of competition that we want to be at. I hope this inspires us to come back here again and continue to improve."

The varsity four used a fast start to jump ahead of the pack in the D Final. Through 250 meters, the Huskies staked a three-seat lead over Massachusetts and a half-length advantage over Boston University. The CAA champions widened their cushion to a half-length over UMass at the 1,000-meter mark, with open water back to BU in third.

Northeastern's power was on display over the second 1,000 meters as the Huskies pulled away from UMass down the stretch, winning the race by more than a length in 7:45.94 to place 19th overall. Massachusetts crossed second (7:49.49), with BU in third (7:53.08) and Jacksonville a distant fourth (8:34.37).

In the II Eights C Final, Northeastern battled early to stick with a tough pack, but fell off the pace by the 500-meter mark. Indiana, which finished 11th overall at the regatta, claimed first place in 6:54.73, with Louisville a half-length back in second. Wisconsin took third, San Diego placed fourth and Oklahoma crossed fifth with a length of open water back to Northeastern (7:16.01).

The varsity eight finished off the day with an 18th-place finish after claiming sixth in its C Final in 7:10.37. UCLA was victorious in 6:48.99, ahead of San Diego, Washington State, Louisville and Wisconsin, which crossed with a length of open water in front of the Huskies.

Ohio State, which won both varsity eight Grand Finals, earned its second straight national championship with 126 team points. California grabbed second with 118, while Brown took third with 116.

With it's strong showing at the NCAA regatta, Northeastern capped a stellar season, which included a fourth CAA championship in the last six years and a historic, four-medal performance at the Eastern Sprints.
