Weekend PreviewCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Northeastern Huskies opened the 2015 calendar year at the Harvard Multi meet today after nearly a month away from competition.
A team comprised of
Kelsey Sullivan,
Erika Moran,
Betsy Garnick,
Nicole Genard and
Allyson Crooke headed across town to compete in a heptathlon, while
Matthew Ferri,
Nick Fofana,
Connor McCarthy and
Nicholas Tyler represented the men in a pentathlon challenge.Â

The event opened with the women's' 60-meter hurdles. Garnick and Genard wrapped up third- and fourth-place finishes with times of 9.06 and 9.24, respectively. Sullivan earned eighth place after completing the event in 9.50 seconds, while Moran took home 17th place with a time of 9.84.

In the high jump it was Sullivan pacing the Huskies. She cleared 1.66 meters, good for third overall. In the next event, the shot put, it was time for Genard to shine as she finished second out of 23 competitors, posting a mark of 10.67 meters. Garnick was just behind her fellow Husky, taking home fifth place with a toss of 10.37 meters.Â
Sullivan finished the heptathlon in fifth place, the highest of the five competing Huskies, with a score of 3373. Garnick wrapped up a seventh-place finish with a score of 3222, while Genard took home 12th place after posting a score of 2916.Â

On the men's side, it was
Nick Fofana who paced the Huskies in several different events. The team consisted of Fofana,
Matthew Ferri,
Connor McCarthy and
Nicholas Tyler.

In the 60-meter dash, Fofana finished ninth overall with a time of 7.37. Ferri and Tyler took home 14th after completing the dash in 7.59.
In the long jump, Fofana once again was at the head of the pack for NU, this time earning an eighth-place finish with a mark of 6.46 meters. The junior's strong day would continue in the shot put as he finished in the top-spot with a toss of 13.43 meters.
The day rounded out for the men with the high jump. Fofana finished in fifth place with a jump of 1.90 meters. Ferri had a strong showing the high jump as well, earning an 11th-place finish with a mark of 1.72 meters.Â

The men's pentathlon continues tomorrow. The rest of the team will return to action as well, as the Huskies prepare for the Beantown Challenge.Â
