Results
BOSTON – During what was an extremely successful day at the Joe Donahue Games for Northeastern track and field, several Huskies set new personal bests, ran IC4A/ECAC qualifying times, and secured top finishes in multiple events.
The games honored the memory of Joe Donahue, a former student-athlete and coach who was revered for his character and his leadership.
As a team, the men finished first overall with a score of 166, while the women ended the event in fifth overall, their final score was 68.83.
On the men's side, 19 Huskies finished in fifth place or better in 12 different events.
Damani Wilson kicked things off by placing third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.96. In the following event, the 200-meter dash, his teammate
Donovan Henry cruised to victory lane as he crossed the finish line in 22.13 seconds. His success wouldn't end with the 200-meters as he wrapped up a second-place finish in the 500-meter run with a mark of 1:05.97.
Joshua Norris and
Connor Quinn were just behind Henry in the run, securing third and fourth overall with times of 1:06.57 and 1:06.81, respectively.
Anthony Pavlich had a strong day in the 400-meters as he earned a fourth-place finish with a time of 50.02. In the 800-meters it was Jay Navin pacing the Huskies, placing fifth overall after he completed the event in 1:58.58.
Paul Duffey has had a tremendous indoor season and the success continued in the mile run as he ran it in just 4:07.68, securing first place in the event. His time is a new personal record, and a meet record. Just a few seconds behind him were fellow Huskies
John Schilkowsky and
Christian Stafford who wound up in second and fifth place with times of 4:11.50 and 4:15.24, respectively. Freshman
Ben Trapani finished with a time of 4:18.26, a new personal record.
In the 60-meter hurdles, freshman
Jordan Samuels once again shined. He completed the hurdles in 8.26 seconds, good for second place. A team of
Peter Katsarakes,
Eric Benny, Wilson and Pavlich earned first place in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:22.04, while
Nick Fofana and
Alex Julian wrapped up second-place finishes in the high jump with marks of 1.88 meters.
After a strong performance in last weekend's long jump,
Kyle Darrow continued his success this weekend, securing a first-place finish in the event with a jump of 7.23 meters. Samuels finished fifth in this event with a mark of 6.58 meters. In the shot put it was two freshmen,
Eric Mellusi and
Ryan Kim, who garnered top finishes for Northeastern. Mellusi finished in second place with a mark of 15.73 meters, a personal best, while Kim earned third place with a toss of 15.44 meters, also a personal best.
James Hall experienced success in the weight throw, finishing second with a mark of 17.24 meters.
For the women, 10 athletes had fifth-place finishes or better in eight different events. First up was
Corinne Myers in 800-meter run where she finished third overall after crossing the finish line in 2:13.19.
Sarah Adler was just steps behind, finishing fifth, with a time of 2:14.39. In the 1000-meter run senior
Kate Johnstone was setting the tone as she cruised to the top spot, finishing in just 2:52.95.
Jordan O'Dea and
Kerri Ruffo wrapped up third- and fourth-place finishes in the mile run with times of 4:59.90 and 5:02.17. O'Dea's time is a new personal record, as well as the no. 5 all-time performance in the women's mile in program history; Ruffo's time is also a personal best and the no. 9 performance all-time. Their teammate
Lucy Young had a terrific outing in the 3000 meters, securing the third overall spot with a mark of 9:50.47.
Kelsey Sullivan shined in the high jump for Northeastern as she finished in fourth with a jump of 1.65 meters.
Zoe Taitel,
Alexandra Rose and
Jenna Serunian all had success with their throws to start off the day. Taitel finished in the shot put with a mark of 12.69 meters, a new personal best. Rose went on to set a new personal record in the shot put with a toss of 12.02 meters Rose and Serunian finished third and fifth in the weight throw with throws of 15.95 and 15.05 meters.
The Huskies are back in action on Friday and Saturday next weekend at the John Thomas Terrier Invite hosted by Boston University. On February 6, the team will compete in the Harvard fast meet in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
