BOSTON – Northeastern women's volleyball embarks on a five-game road trip, their longest time out of Massachusetts this season, beginning with the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) this Friday Oct. 2, at 7 p.m., followed by College of Charleston (CofC) on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 1 p.m.

Five in five
It's the first time since the program's opening CAA campaign that the Red and Black will have five consecutive road matches in five different states. The last time five or more straight matches took place in different states was in 2005: Maryland, Delaware, New York, Connecticut and Virginia.

Coach's notes
The Red and Black look to improve their 1-2 CAA record this weekend after a 3-1 deficit against the William & Mary Tribe. Head coach Ken Nichols says the team will narrow-in on neutralizing opponents early on, while improving their own service and serve-receive game.

All-time vs. UNCW
The Huskies have faced the Seahawks 18 times since joining the CAA. NU leads the series at 16-2, which includes seven sweeps, one of which was in the 2013 CAA Tournament semifinal. The two losses came last season when UNCW broke NU's 16-match winning streak against the team.

Last time out against the Seahawks
Northeastern last saw UNCW on home court, Oct. 26, 2014, which resulted in a 3-0 loss. It was the first defeat against the Seahawks since joining the conference. The match leaders were:

Kristen Walding | 19 assists
Natalia Skiba '15 | 11 digs
Brigitte Burcescu | 6 kills
Taylor Reiter | 4 kills

UNCW 2014 recap
UNCW earned its second 20-win campaign (21-11, 10-6 CAA) in 2014 and its second consecutive appearance in the CAA Tournament semifinals. The Seahawks offense was led by Meredith Peacock with two kills per set and Morgan Kline with 3.05 kills per set. Alyssa Desjardins offered an average 5.97 assists per set, while Morgan Owney covered the team's defense with 3.35 digs per set.

This fall for the Seahawks
UNCW is coming off a 3-2 win over Charleston, their first CAA victory this fall. The Seahawks currently sit at 10-3 overall, 3-2 away and undefeated in home matches, 4-0, under head coach Amy Bambenek, who returns for her seventh season. The team's moto for this season is "limitless," capturing their renewed confidence and limitless attitude. Statistically, UNCW averages 11.6 kills per set, backed by Nicole Lott, Kristen Powell and Meredith Peacock. Lindsay Hartmann and Lott lead the team's offense of 15 digs per set, while Alyssa Desjardins continues to lead the Seahawks' assists of 10.5 per set with her own 6.41 per set.

All-time vs. Charleston
Charleston leads the all-time series 4-1 since joining the CAA in 2013. Despite two, four-set losses against the Cougars last season, Northeastern is one of only three teams to have defeated the South Carolina team in league competition.

Last time out against the Cougars
NU had one of its best defensive matches against Charleston on home court, Nov. 12, 2014. Although the Huskies took a 3-1 loss, the match was highlighted by Natalia Skiba '15 becoming the first player in program history to have achieved multiple 600-dig seasons in her career. The night's leaders were:

Natalia Skiba '15 | 32 digs
Jamie Bredahl | 24 assists
Brigitte Burcescu | 20 kills
Caterina Rosander | 9 blocks

Charleston 2014 recap
College of Charleston was one win shy of their third straight NCAA Tournament appearance last season. The Cougars fell to Hofstra in five sets during the CAA title match, concluding the 2014 campaign 23-10 overall and 14-2 in the association. The squad was ranked in six statistical categories and reached the finals with one of the most successful graduating classes in program history.

This fall for the Cougars
The Cougars enter this weekend at 8-7 overall and 0-1 in the league (Thursday's results not available at time of release). CofC is on the prowl for their 15th consecutive conference title under head coach Jason Kepner in his ninth season with the Cougars. This season's returning lineup features Melissa Morello, who hits on average .250, Allison Beckman with 8.38 assists per set and Britney Vallez with 3.98 digs per set.

NU vs. CAA members
The Huskies have lead in kills and digs against each of their CAA opponents so far, garnering 157 kills and 188 digs. NU opponents average 11.54 kills per set and 13.54 digs per set against the Red and Black.

Rising to the occasion
Laynie Whitehead had her season-best and career best matches during the Huskies' opening week in CAA play. The rookie from Coralville, Iowa, registered eight kills in NU's first league win, 3-2 against Elon, and in the team's first conference match, 2-3 vs. Hofstra.

Northeastern continues their tour with James Madison on Friday, Oct 9, at 7 p.m., and Towson on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m.
