SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Northeastern men's ice hockey team looks to earn a split in the weekend set at No. 18 Notre Dame tonight at the Compton Family Ice Arena at 7:35 p.m. Northeastern is 4-2-0 at Compton Family Ice Arena since the building opened in 2011. NU became the first team to defeat the Fighting Irish three times at Compton when NU won the Shillelagh Tournament in 2013.

The all-time series with the Fighting IrishThe Huskies and Fighting Irish will meet for the 14th time in program history on Friday. Northeastern boasts a record of 8-4-1 all-time against Notre Dame and has won seven of their last 11 meetings with the Irish. NU is also 4-2-0 against the Fighting Irish since they joined Hockey East in 2013-14.
The two squads added to their history at Matthews Arena last season with a two-game set hosted by the Huskies. Northeastern took the first game thanks to a late goal from
Dalen Hedges to give the Huskies a 3-2 win. The next night, it was
Zach Aston-Reese who posted two third period goals to seal a 4-2 victory.
Scouting Notre DameNotre Dame enters Friday's game with a record of 5-2-2 overall and 3-0-0 in Hockey East. The Irish have won four of their last five games and have enjoyed a strong start to their season. After splitting a two game set with Penn State and posting back-to-back 3-3 ties against Minnesota-Duluth, the Irish opened their conference slate with a two-game set against UConn. Notre Dame pulled out a 2-1 victory on UConn's ice before blowing them out 8-2 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Last weekend, Notre Dame hosted the Minnesota Golden Gophers for a two-game series. Notre Dame knocked off Minnesota 4-3 on a go-ahead goal from Jordan Gross with under two minutes to go on night one before Thomas DiPauli scored Notre Dame's lone goal in a 4-1 defeat the following evening. DiPauli and Anders Bjork have each posted nine points through eight games for the Irish this season. A draft pick of the Boston Bruins, Bjork tallied 22 points as a freshman last season and will be the focal point of Notre Dame's attack this year. Gross currently sits in third in Hockey East in regards to defenseman scoring having scored three goals to go along with four assists.
Goaltender Cal Peterson is the anchor of the Fighting Irish. He made 59 saves over the span of two games against the Huskies last season and has been the only Notre Dame goalie to see the net this season. He boasts a record of 5-2-2 and owns a save percentage of .910.
Straight into ComptonThe Huskies have felt right at home when playing at the Compton Family Ice Arena, going 4-2-0 since the building opened in November of 2011 and outscoring the Irish 20-11. When NU captured the Shillelagh Tournament title on Nov. 23, 2013, it made the Huskies the first club to defeat Notre Dame three times at Compton.

The road aheadThe road doesn't get any easier for the Huskies, who will battle the nation's top team and the defending national champion in Providence next weekend in a home-and-home set, beginning on Friday at Schneider Arena in Providence.
