Northeastern welcomed to Belfast with open arms

WATCH: Coach Keefe's interview with the BBC

BELFAST – It's been just one day since the Northeastern men's ice hockey team arrived in Belfast, but the Huskies are already feeling right at home.

On Wednesday, NU traveled to a pair of local schools in the area, starting at the Leadhill PS. While there the Huskies interacted with elementary school students, answering questions and signing autographs for the 150 students in attendance.

Northeastern then headed down the road to Malone Integrated College, where they discussed their experiences and responsibilities as Division I student-athletes to the middle school students.

The Huskies' trip to Belfast is also a trip down memory lane for associate head coach Jerry Keefe. Keefe, now in his fifth season at Northeastern, played for the original Belfast Giants during the 2000-01 season, tallying three goals and 11 assists in 39 games as a Giant.

"When Odyssey first opened up, there was a lot of hype around it," Keefe said. "We didn't know what to expect, and when we finally got here to play in this building, it was pretty special. So this is a great opportunity for our guys to come over to a new country and play hockey."
