BELFAST – With Northeastern men's ice hockey leading 2-1 in the final minute of regulation, No. 4 UMass Lowell (10-1-3, 6-0-3) tied the game to force overtime, then scored 1:13 into the extra frame to knock off the Huskies on Friday at the Friendship Four in Belfast, Northern Ireland, 3-2.

The Huskies put together a strong performance from start to finish, taking leads of 1-0 and 2-1 before the River Hawks answered on both occasions. Nolan Stevens and Ryan Rosenthal each scored for the Huskies, while Ryan Ruck made 17 stops in goal. Dylan Zink paced UMass Lowell with a pair of goals, including the game-winner on a snapshot from the slot, and Kevin Boyle had 20 stops for UML.

Northeastern outshot UMass Lowell 22-20 in the game and was 1-of-4 on the man advantage, tossing 11 shots on goal during their power plays. NU also won 45-of-82 draws, highlighted by an 18-of-30 performance from John Stevens. The River Hawks, meanwhile, went 2-of-3 on the man advantage.

Goal descriptions:

• Northeastern took a 1-0 lead less than a minute into the second period as Nolan Stevens buried his fourth of the year at the tail end of a Husky power play. With NU crisply moving the puck around the offensive zone, Matt Benning fed Dylan Sikura down low. Sikura then fired the puck towards goal, where Stevens was able to knock it home.

• UMass Lowell leveled the score at one with 4:14 to play in the period on Dylan Zink's fourth of the year. During a River Hawks power play, C.J. Smith took a pass from Nick Master and then dished up to Zink at the point. Zink then blasted a one-timer from just inside the blue line that beat Ruck top shelf for the score.

• The Huskies took the lead again five minutes into the third period on a transition play by Jarrett Fennell, who sprung Brendan Collier and Rosenthal on a two-on-one. Collier drew the defenseman towards him a bit before sending a saucer pass towards Rosenthal. The puck then redirected off Rosenthal's skate and past Boyle. The goal was briefly reviewed and stood as called.

• With the River Hawks on the power play and Boyle pulled in favor of the extra skater for a six-on-four skating advantage, UMass Lowell pulled even with exactly one minute to play in regulation. Michael Kapla received a pass from Joe Gambardella, who then spotted Ryan McGrath near the left face-off dot. After McGrath took the pass, he spun and fired the puck, beating Ruck glove side to force overtime.

• In the extra session, the River Hawks ended it when Zink's second of the night. After Colton Saucerman blocked a big shot in the defensive zone, Kapla gathered the loose puck and fed Zink in the slot, who ripped a shot top shelf for his fifth of the season.

Stats of the game:

• Northeastern is now 42-59-9 all-time against UMass Lowell
• Friday marked the first-ever collegiate regular season ice hockey games played overseas.
• Friday's contest also marked the eighth different venue that NU and UMass Lowell have played in (Boston Garden, TD Garden, Matthews Arena, Tsgonas Center, Tully Forum, Thompson Arena, Fenway Park, The SSE Arena)

The road ahead:

• Northeastern will face Colgate in the consolation game of the inaugural Friendship Four tomorrow afternoon. Puck drop is slated for 11 a.m. (ET), and the contest will be aired live on NESNplus.
