BOSTON – Two days after picking up its third true road victory of the season, the Northeastern women's basketball team will begin a six-game home stand on Friday, Dec. 4 as the Huskies host Maine for a 12 p.m. matinee. NU will be welcoming local youths from Boston Public Schools to attend Friday's game at Cabot Center as the Huskies celebrate Field Day and promote the furthering of education.

LAST TIME AGAINST MAINE

Northeastern battled hard against Maine on Dec. 13, 2014, despite dropping a 60-51 decision to the Black Bears in Bangor, Maine. Tiffany Montagne led the Huskies with 17 points on five-of-nine shooting from downtown, while then-seniors Amencie Mercier and A'lece Mark posted 13 and eight points, respectively. Samantha DeFreese registered five points, while Francesca Sally earned five rebounds and two steals. NU trailed by just four points at the half, 22-18, and fought back late to keep the final score within single digits.

LAST TIME OUT

Samantha DeFreese and Jess Genco exploded for two career-best scoring performances on Dec. 2 at New Hampshire as the Huskies earned a 66-54 road victory. DeFreese ignited for 29 points on 12-of-14 shooting, a performance that ranks among the program's top 10 in single-game, field-goal percentage (85.7 percent). Genco tallied 21 points and made each of Northeastern's five 3-pointers in the game. The NU duo combined for 50 of the Huskies' 66 points against the Wildcats.

COLE AGAINST THE AMERICA EAST

Northeastern head coach Kelly Cole is 2-2 all-time against the America East. During her first season at the helm of the Huskies, NU suffered single-digit setbacks against Maine (L, 51-60) and New Hampshire (L, 62-63), before avoiding the America East sweep by knocking off Albany on the road, 70-67. This season, Cole's Northeastern squad defeated New Hampshire, 66-54, on Dec. 2. UNH and Maine are the only two America East schools that appear on Northeastern's 2015-16 schedule.

NORTHEASTERN IN THE AMERICA EAST

During the Huskies' tenure in the America East conference (1996-2005), including its predecessors, the Seaboard conference (1984-88) and the North Atlantic conference (1988-96), Northeastern accumulated an overall win-loss record of 156-158. NU enjoyed its best days during the league's Seaboard years, amassing a four-year record of 33-12 and winning three conference championships (1985, 1986, 1987). The Huskies came through again with their fourth league title in 1999, defeating Towson, Drexel, and Maine in the conference tournament en route to making the program's lone NCAA tournament appearance.

DEFREESE NAMED TO ALL-TOURNEY TEAM

Senior co-captain Samantha DeFreese was named to the 2015 St. Mary's Hilton Concord Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament Team on Nov. 28. DeFreese averaged 13.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 36.5 minutes per game against Missouri (Nov. 27) and Fresno State (Nov. 28), and registered her 13th career double-double against the Bulldogs (13 rebounds, 11 points). Strange but true, Nov. 28 was the first game in which DeFreese accumulated more rebounds than points in a double-double effort.

ORTIZ CONVERTS RARE FOUR-POINT PLAY

During the final minute of the Huskies' Nov. 27 against Missouri, sophomore guard Claudia Ortiz was fouled after releasing a 3-pointer from the right side. Although Ortiz ended up hitting the deck, her shot ended up hitting the back of the net, giving the Carolina, Puerto Rico, native a chance to complete a rare four-point play at the line. Ortiz successfully knocked down the free throw, helping the NU sophomore finish the game with nine points and two made 3-point field goals.

ZWERLING SETS NEW CAREER BARS

Freshman Zoe Zwerling enjoyed her first career game on Nov. 28 against Fresno State, setting new career bests in points (11), minutes (23), made field goals (four), and made 3-pointers (two). Zwerling and fellow California native, Loren Lassiter, each had the chance to play in front of their hometown supporters at the 2015 St. Mary's Hilton Concord Thanksgiving Classic.

MIZZOU TOPS NU IN BATTLE OF UNBEATENS

In its first game of the 2015 St. Mary's Hilton Concord Thanksgiving Classic, Northeastern (3-1) played well against a talented, 6-0 Missouri squad. Despite losing the game, 69-56, NU trailed by just eight points, 50-42, a minute into the fourth quarter. Three of the four quarters contested between the Huskies and Tigers were also decided within a margin of two points.

TAGGART PERFECT AGAINST UMES

Sophomore forward Maureen Taggart shot a perfect five-of-five from the field during the Huskies' 60-49 victory against UMES on Nov. 19. Taggart went three-for-three from downtown and finished the game with 13 points, one point shy of tying her career high (14). The Wallingford, Vermont, native has made 39 3-pointers during 35 career games.

BENCH COMES THROUGH FOR HUSKIES

Northeastern scored more than 30 bench points during two of its first three games this season. The Huskies put up 31 bench points against Boston University on Nov. 13, outscoring the Terriers in the category by a margin of 23 points (31-8). On Nov. 19 against UMES, Northeastern's 32 bench points accounted for more than 50 percent of the Huskies' total scoring production (32-of-60).

GIACONE OFF TO HOT START

In her first three collegiate games at Northeastern, freshman forward Gabriella Giacone shot 58.6 percent from the floor while averaging 13.0 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. As of Nov. 26, Giacone was second on the team in made field goals (17), trailing Samantha DeFreese by just two baskets.
