BOSTON – Riding a two-game winning streak into Wednesday night's game at Cabot Center, the Northeastern women's basketball team was unable to walk out with a third consecutive win as the Huskies were thwarted by Quinnipiac, 71-60.

Freshmen Te'Erica Eason and Gabriella Giacone were the lone double-digit scorers for Northeastern (5-3) as the NU rookies notched 15 and 12 points, respectively. Eason hit a season best, seven field goals, and collected seven boards, while Giacone shot four-of-nine from the field and three-of-four from the line.

Giacone also celebrated the first double-double of her young Northeastern career, snagging 10 rebounds, including five on the offensive end of the court.

Fresh off receiving CAA weekly awards, Samantha DeFreese and Jess Genco each finished Wednesday's game with nine points apiece. DeFreese brought down seven rebounds, while Genco dished out seven assists as well.

Even with 21 offensive boards and 11 more field-goal attempts than Quinnipiac (5-4), Northeastern was unable to chip away at the Bobcats' lead throughout the second half. Quinnipiac's Aryn McClure broke a 7-7 tie with 4:16 to play in the first quarter and the Bobcats never relinquished the lead during the remaining 34 minutes of game time.

NU came within two points of Quinnipiac at 37-35 with 6:45 left in the third, but a 10-2 run by the Bobcats created enough separation from the Huskies to last the remainder of the contest.

Sophomore guard Claudia Ortiz eclipsed the eight-point mark for the fourth time this year, recording three rebounds in the process. Oritz had a chance to convert what would have been her second four-point play of the season two minutes into the first quarter, but was unable to complete the play at the foul line. She also scored Northeastern's first five points of the game.

Francesca Sally fought her way to six rebounds during 18 minutes of action, while Loren Lassiter charted her first basket of the season to go along with two rebounds of her own.

As a team, Northeastern's 73 field-goal attempts on Wednesday were the most the squad had amassed all season, but the Huskies' left the court with their second lowest shooting percentage of the year at 32.9 percent.

After preventing Maine from making a single trip to the free-throw line on Dec. 4, Quinnipiac's 29 free-throw attempts were also the most the Huskies have surrendered this season. Maria Napolitano (six-of-eight) and Sarah Shewan (four-of-seven) combined for 10 of the Bobcats' 15 free-throw makes, while the two visiting players finished with 19 and 10 points, respectively.

The Huskies will have nine days to prepare for their toughest non-conference opponent of the year as Northeastern will host Michigan State during the Northeastern Winter Showdown on Friday, Nov. 18, at 8 p.m. in Matthews Arena.

STATS OF THE GAME
-First-year guard Te'Erica Eason posted a career high, 15 points, against Quinnipiac. Her seven field goals were also a season and career high.
-Northeastern's freshmen combined to score 39 of the Huskies' 60 points on Wednesday night (65.0 percent).

-The Huskies outrebounded their opponent for the fifth time during the 2015-16 season, winning the category by a margin of 48-46. Wednesday's result is the first game in which Northeastern has led its opponent in total rebounds and lost.
-Northeastern's 48 total rebounds and 21 offensive rebounds are both season highs.
-Quinnipiac extended its winning streak against Northeastern to two games. The Huskies still lead the all-time series, 4-3.
-All 10 Quinnipiac players recorded at least two rebounds each.
