Dustin Hunt, the Northeastern baseball team earned the series victory against Incarnate Word with a 9-3 win in Sunday's rubber match at Sullivan Field.
Hunt struck out five batters and allowed only three hits and one earned run to lead Northeastern (2-1), while receiving plenty of offensive support. Junior co-captain

Pat Madigan, and freshman
Mason Koppens all had three-hit performances on Sunday afternoon as the Huskies pounded out a season-high 15 hits.
Madigan reached base four times and scored twice, going three-for-four with three RBIs and a walk. The Freeport, New York, native also extended his hitting streak to three straight games to start the 2015 season.

Koppens has posted a hit in each of his first three collegiate games this season as the freshman went three-for-four with a triple, scoring twice as well.

Incarnate Word (1-2) carried a 2-0 lead into the top of the sixth when NU turned the tides courtesy of a two-run double from freshman
Maxwell Burt.

The Huskies then blew the game open in the seventh, scoring five runs on five hits to take a commanding 7-2 advantage. Koppens opened the inning with a lead-off triple, and later came around to score on an RBI single by Treff that made it 3-2.

Nolan Lang and junior
Michael Foster loaded the bases, UIW pitcher Chris Jones walked Madigan to bring in another run, and then conceded an RBI on a groundout by sophomore
Nick Fanneron, giving the Huskies a 5-2 lead.

Burt then delivered a two-out, two-run single that drove in Madigan and sophomore
Gabe Levanti, further padding the Northeastern lead at 7-2.

The Huskies continued to add on insurance runs during the top of the eighth when Madigan drove in two more runs with a single up the middle, scoring Koppens and Treff to make it 9-2 in favor of the visitors.

Mike Fitzgerald came on in relief of Hunt in the seventh and tossed two clean frames, striking out four batters to preserve the Huskies' scoreline.Â

UIW was able to pull a run back in the ninth, but sophomore pitcher
Aaron Civale was able to strand a runner on second with a game-ending fly-out to clinch the series win for Northeastern.

The Huskies will head back on the road next weekend for a three-game series at South Carolina. First pitch on Friday, Feb. 20 is set for 4 p.m. from Columbia, South Carolina.
