WILMINGTON, N.C. – Despite scoring first against UNCW for the third straight game this weekend, the Northeastern baseball team could not cool down a red-hot Seahawks lineup during Sunday's series finale as the Huskies were edged out on the road, 15-1.

NU was limited to just four hits during the game and two during the final eight innings as UNCW completed a three-game sweep against the Huskies.

First baseman Rob Fonseca led Northeastern (7-12, 0-3 CAA) with two hits in four at-bats, while shortstop Michael Foster went one-for-four at the plate. Foster's first-inning single extended the redshirt-junior's reached-base streak to 12 consecutive games, while teammate Pat Madigan improved his reached-base streak to 15 straight games with a third-inning walk.

Josh Treff registered a single during the Huskies' first at-bat of the game, marking the second time in three games this series that Treff has recorded a hit during the game's opening at-bat.

Junior James Mulry allowed six earned runs on nine hits in 4.1 innings pitched and ended the game with two strikeouts and two walks. Northeastern head coach Mike Glavine brought in a total of six relief pitchers to try and slow down UNCW (15-6, 3-0 CAA) late in the game, but the Seahawks rallied for six runs twice in the fifth and eighth innings, putting hopes of an NU comeback just out of reach.

Second baseman Brian Mims went three-for-four and scored twice to lead UNCW, while first baseman Gavin Stupienski and designated hitter Joe Bertone each hit two home runs apiece. The Seahawks tallied a season-high 19 hits against the Huskies on Sunday, while 12 different players recorded at least one hit on the afternoon.

Foster followed a lead-off single by Treff in the first inning with a single down the right-field line that moved Treff over to third base. UNCW would catch Foster stealing by executing a "strike 'em out, throw 'em out" play, allowing Treff to score from third to put Northeastern ahead early, 1-0.

The Huskies would put two runners on base in the third when Maxwell Burt walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch by Evan Phillips before Treff was hit by a pitch in the next at-bat. NU loaded the bases after Madigan earned a two-out walk, but Cam Hanley struck out, ending the Huskies' hopes of adding on a couple of insurance runs.

UNCW would tie the game during the bottom of the third when Zach Shields hit an RBI single that scored Mims from second. The Seahawks would put two runners on base the following inning in the fourth and a wild pitch thrown by Mulry allowed Casey Golden to score, giving UNCW a 2-1 lead.

Northeastern's offense took a back seat midway through the game as Seahawks hurler Josh Roberson retired seven straight Huskies between the third and fifth innings. Stupienski and Bertone hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the fifth that awarded the Seahawks a 7-1 advantage, and Mims ripped an RBI single to put UNCW in front, 8-1.

Stupienski would homer again in the sixth inning to increase the Seahawks lead to eight runs at 9-1, and UNCW would rally for six more runs in the eighth inning to seal up a 15-1 victory against NU.

Northeastern will return to Friedman Diamond on Tuesday, March 24, at 3 p.m. for the Huskies' first home game of the 2015 season against Boston College. NU will host UMass Lowell on Wednesday, March 25, at 3 p.m. before squaring off against Delaware for a three-game CAA series next weekend beginning Friday, March 27, at 3 p.m.
