Â
Nolan Lang led all NU players with two hits in two at-bats and ended the game with a double, a walk, and a run scored.
Pat Madigan's fly ball in the fourth inning bounced off Delaware outfielder Calvin Scott's glove and over the left-field wall for a home run, giving Northeastern a 3-0 lead.
Â
Catcher
Josh Treff went one-for-one with a run scored, a stolen base, and a hit-by-pitch, while freshman
Maxwell Burt hit a double on top of scoring a run and reaching base on a walk.
Â
Chad Martin threw a complete-game 6.0 innings for Delaware and allowed five runs on seven hits while striking out seven and walking three. Zach Lopes and Diaz Nardo each hit triples for the Blue Hens.
Â
Northeastern was quick to load the bases in the bottom of the first inning as
Michael Foster and
Rob Fonseca hit back-to-back singles after Treff was hit by a pitch.
Cam Hanley proceeded to hit into a 4-6-3 double play, but Treff came into score from third, giving NU an early 1-0 lead.
Â
Madigan's bouncing home run in the bottom of the fourth provided the Huskies with a 3-0 advantage, and NU built a 4-0 lead the next inning after Treff hit a bunt single that led to a Delaware throwing error, scoring Burt from second base.
Â
The Blue Hens rallied in the top of the sixth with the help of back-to-back singles by Nardo and Tyler Powell that led to three runs, tightening Northeastern's lead to 4-3. Lang would tack on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth after advancing from second to home on two wild pitches as the Huskies sealed up a 5-3 victory.
Â
NU outhit Delaware, 8-5, during game two of Sunday's doubleheader as starting pitcher
James Mulry went toe-to-toe with Blue Hens ace Ron Marinaccio. Mulry allowed just four hits in 6.0 innings pitched and struck out five, while Marinaccio fanned seven Northeastern hitters and held NU to just five hits in 7.0 innings of work.
Â
Foster's RBI triple in the bottom of the third scored Burt from third base and put the Huskies on the scoreboard, trailing Delaware, 4-1. The redshirt-junior finished game two going two-for-five with two RBIs and a run scored. He also pressured the Blue Hens' third baseman to throw home on a fielder's choice hit by Fonseca in the next at-bat, scoring the Huskies' second run of the game.
Â
Scambia ripped a line drive to the deepest part of the ballpark at Friedman Diamond in the bottom of the seventh inning for an inside-the-park home run. NU head coach
Mike Glavine waved Scambia home the moment the sophomore turned the corner at second base and the right fielder slid past the Delaware catcher just as the outfield throw arrived at the plate.
Â
Hanley, who was hitless in game one, belted the game-winning single to right field with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Northeastern a 5-4 walk-off win. Trailing 4-3, Burt singled with two outs in the ninth to prolong the game and Treff continued the inning with a five-pitch walk. Foster proceeded to single to center field, scoring Burt from second base, tying the game at 4-4. After Fonseca was intentionally walked to load the bases, Hanley took three straight balls from Eric Sawyer before taking a 3-1 pitch to right field for the game-winning hit.
