LOWELL, Mass. – Tuesday night's baseball game between Northeastern and UMass Lowell was canceled due to rain with the Huskies leading the River Hawks, 2-1, with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning. At the present time, the game will not be rescheduled.
Â
Rain in the Lowell, Massachusetts, area during the early evening pushed back the start of the game from its originally scheduled time of 7 p.m. to a first-pitch time of 7:27 p.m. Approximately one hour following first pitch, heavy rain descended on LeLacheur Park, sending the game into a 62-minute rain delay. The game was officially called at 9:29 p.m.
Â
Michael Foster led off the first inning for Northeastern (23-26, 13-8 CAA) by taking a full-count pitch over the left-field fence for a solo home run. During the next at-bat,
Keith Kelly blasted his first career triple off the right-field wall, only to have it nulled by the game's cancelation.
Â
Taking the mound with a 2-0 lead, sophomore
Nate Borges threw six strikeouts during 3.2 innings of work, allowing just one run on three hits, but his impressive stat line was also wiped out by the rain.
Â
Northeastern will dry off and head back to Friedman Diamond on Thursday, May 14, to begin a three-game series against No. 15 College of Charleston. The Huskies can clinch the No. 3 seed in the 2015 CAA tournament by earning no more than two losses against the first-place Cougars.
Â
NU will also be dedicating the new John "Tinker" Connelly Pavilion on Saturday, May 16, at 10:30 a.m. in conjunction with Senior Day festivities.Â
