WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – An outpouring of offense Saturday night by William & Mary proved to be too tough a task for the Northeastern men's soccer team as the Huskies were defeated, 7-1, by the Tribe at Albert-Daly Field.
Â
Daniel Arvidsson booted the lone goal for Northeastern (2-8-0, 1-3-0 CAA), redirecting
Ackim Mpofu's right-to-left cross through from 10 feet in front of the William & Mary goalkeeper, Mac Phillips. Arvidsson's zinger was the redshirt-junior's second of 2016 and his first since the Huskies' Aug. 26 season opener.
Â
Antonio Bustamante started William & Mary (6-3-2, 1-1-2 CAA) on the right track, scoring the game's first goal during the third minute of play. Bustamante would finish the match with a hat trick, charting his second and third goals of the night during the 34th and 58th minutes, respectively.
Â
Ryder Bell and Marcel Berry each finished with two goals apiece for the Tribe. Bell upped William & Mary's lead to 2-0 courtesy of his seventh-minute strike and pushed it to 4-0 just 48 ticks into the second half. Berry scored both of his goals within the 15 minutes following halftime, sandwiching Bustamante's third with goals during the 55th and 59th minutes.
Â
After
Christian McKenna and Arvidsson had combined for the Huskies' two shots during the first half, Northeastern managed five attempts during the final 45 minutes. Despite this, NU finished well off the pace of William & Mary's 17 attempts, of which 14 landed on goal. Northeastern goalkeeper
Matt Dabrowski did well to make six saves, but was tested all too often by the Tribe's strong attacking core throughout the evening.
Â
Arvidsson led Northeastern with three shots, sending two on goal, while McKenna ended the night with two. Mpofu had his lone shot on goal saved during the 69th minute, while
Gerardo Milano directed a set piece over the crossbar during the waning moments (87th minute).
