SHELTON, Conn. – In its first action of the fall season, the Northeastern women's rowing team took fifth overall in the varsity eight race on Saturday morning at the Head of the Housatonic.
The first varsity, coxed by
Haley Doucette, completed the 2.7-mile course with a time of 14:21.7 racing against the likes of Radcliffe, Brown and Yale. Northeastern's second varsity also competed in the race, taking 12th overall at 14:58.9 with
Meghan O'Keefe at coxswain and
Jocelyn Mongillo in the stroke seat. Brown took first overall with a time of 13:54.6, followed by Yale's 'A' boat (14:03.1) and 'B' boat at 14:07.9 while Radcliffe was fourth (14:09.7).
The first varsity four, which featured student-athletes who rowed earlier in the day in the eights, took second overall just behind Yale with a time of 15:36.5, while the second varsity four finished seventh at 16:35.5.
The Huskies will return home for the 2016 Head of the Charles Regatta, which will be held on Oct. 22-23. Parents, alumni, and friends of the program are invited to a reception on Oct. 22 at Henderson Boathouse from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Light refreshments and a cash bar will be available to all parents, alumni and friends of the programs. Admission to the event is free of charge.
