BOSTON – The Northeastern women's rowing team capped off its fall season on Saturday morning with a strong showing at the Foot of the Charles. The first varsity finished second overall while the varsity four and freshman eight both recorded first place finishes.
"It was a great day for the program," said head coach
Joe Wilhelm. "We have put a lot of effort into building the overall depth and speed of the program this fall. The results today showed that we are getting a great effort from every athlete on the team. It was a good way to wrap up the fall season, and send us into off season conditioning on a positive note."
The first varsity, coxed by
Haley Doucette, finished the 3.5-mile course second only to Radcliffe, clocking in with a time of 20:48.6 on a course that runs from the MIT boathouse up to the traditional Head of the Charles finish line. The second varsity, meanwhile, finished sixth overall in that race with a time of 21:32.1, which was the fastest time among all second varsity boats.
Northeastern varsity four, coxed by
Meghan O'Keefe, was tested by both MIT and Boston College, but the Huskies were able to stave off both crews to take first overall. The freshman eight boat also found stiff competition in the Eagles from Chestnut Hill, but once again it was the Huskies who came out on top, edging Boston College. Both of those races ran 2.5-miles from Riverside to the Head of the Charles finish line.
The Huskies won't return to the water until early April when Northeastern opens the spring season with the Orange Challenge Cup in Camden, New Jersey.
