Post-game Interview
BROOKLINE, Mass. – Junior first baseman
Nick Fanneron exploded for a career high, five RBIs, Wednesday courtesy of a two-run homer and a bases-clearing double as the Northeastern baseball team withstood Quinnipiac's late-game charge to win a high-scoring affair, 12-9.
Â
Fanneron's bat helped the Huskies post a pair of matching four-run frames during the third and fourth that resulted in a 9-3 lead in favor of the home team. Although the Bobcats crafted their way to six unanswered runs to level the game at 9-9, NU rallied for three runs in the eighth to put the victory just out of reach.
Â
Charlie McConnell went three-for-four and walked once out of the leadoff spot for Northeastern (16-14), scoring four times. McConnell remained perfect in stolen base attempts this year, converting on all three of his tries Wednesday to boost his season total to 16. He also legged out his first career triple during the Huskies' first at-bat of the game.
Â
Keith Kelly and
Nolan Lang each singled and scored twice for NU, combining for three RBIs and three walks. Freshman catcher
Michael Geaslen hammered his first career double through the gap in left center during the fourth, while fellow rookie
Jake Farrell knocked a go-ahead RBI single up the middle in the eighth, sending Northeastern in front for the final time.
Â
NU head coach
Mike Glavine cycled seven different pitchers into Wednesday's game, with no pitcher throwing longer than two full innings. Starter
Nate Borges began the day with consecutive scoreless innings, allowing three hits but striking out two. Despite being on the mound when the tying run came across the plate on a passed ball,
Mike Fitzgerald pitched a spotless ninth to secure his second winning decision of the year.
Â
Northeastern completed its seven-game home stand with a 5-2 record and will now hit the road for a three-game CAA series at Delaware, beginning Friday, April 15, at 3 p.m.
